*Get it? Green eyes? Anyone?*

We trudged through the turnstiles at the entrance of the liar, defeated. None of us wanted to explain to Sensei what just happened with that girl- (y/n). At these moments, I was almost glad to not be leader. Sure, maybe it was kinda all of our faults for not checking if there was a person holding onto the mutagen, but there was no way in shell that I would tell Leo that. It's his team, it's his responsibility.

As soon as the metal subway gates made their usual soft grinding noise, Master Splinter emerged from the dojo.

"My sons," he said calmly. Sensei was now standing just in front of the patterned sliding doors with his arms crossed behind his back. His tone was welcoming and familiar, but I could sense my brothers tensing up, especially Leo who was awkwardly swaying on the spot. As if unsure if he was really there. "How was your mission?" Splinter asked kindly.

I crossed my arms in front of my chest and huffed, staring Leo down as if to say "Well I'm not telling him..."

In response, Leo stood up straight and was about to open his mouth when Mikey broke. He fell to his knees and began to wail and ramble pathetically, "WE REVEALED OUR IDENTITY TO A HUMAN GIRL SENSEI! She had the mutagen and we didn't know... the Kraang got her but she escaped...and we... down a manhole... we didn't mean to!"

"MIKEY!" Leo, Donnie and I snapped. I could feel the veins on my forehead bulging and my temper starting to rise. Now he had probably just made our situation with Master Splinter even worse. Why'd he have to be such an emotional baby...

Sensei rose one of his eyebrows and looked at the rest of us inquisitively, like he couldn't believe what Mikey had said. I didn't blame him, I can barely stand to listen to anything Mikey word-vomits; let alone actually take him seriously. I mean, the guy puts jelly beans on pizza. I don't understand how anyone can even be bothered to pay attention to what he says; I know I can't.

"Leonardo, is what Michelangelo says the truth?" Master Splinter questioned sternly. He was staring at Leo intently, like a carnivorous bird hunting its prey. Leo gulped and scratched the back of his neck nervously.

"Well..." Leo began, trying to smooth over what Mikey had just blurted out. "Yes."

We spent the next four hours in intensive training as punishment, Sensei was not impressed...

-

The next morning I was completely out of it. I was sore from the four hours of extra training that I had to do because of Mikey's big mouth. My shell hurt from (y/n) using me as some sort of cushion, twice. And I was also pissed because Donnie managed to get out of the blind fighting exercise with Splinter to go off and "keep an eye on (y/n)", as she walked home.

How didn't Splinter see through Donnie's stupid excuse? I asked myself, while I continued to punch the Shredder dummy in the back of the living room. It was just a way for him to skip the punishment that we all had to endure, even though it was mainly because of his inability to check if there was a person above us that caused us to be in this mess.

I saw Donnie's face when he was talking to (y/n), and the way he seemed to snap back to reality after she left. It was just like, April.

Something in me snapped.

I jumped, made a mid-air turn and came back around to face the Shredder dummy, kicking it full force with my right leg.  The chain gave way and the dummy fell in defeat on the floor. But I didn't feel any better. Instead the anger remained. I felt like a water geyser, the pressure was building, and soon I was going to explode.

I left the dummy lying on the floor and stomped off to my room grumbling to myself. "So pathetic... Why he even bothers... I could have done a better job than that idiot anyways..."

As I was walking away, I could hear my brothers talking about me behind my back; literally.

"Who spit on his pizza?" Mikey asked Leo, with a straight face.

"Mikey that's not-" Leo started, but stopped himself. Trying to reason with Mikey was like attempting to breathe underwater: damn near impossible. "Something's probably just bugging him."

Donnie stuck his head out of the lab and added, "What doesn't bug Raph?" Before returning to whatever weird tech nonsense he was doing.

He wasn't even in the conversation! Why the shell did he have to put in his two cents?! It's not like I need more criticism about my temper!

"I HEARD THAT DONNIE!" I yelled angrily, walking into my bedroom and slamming the door behind me.

Spike retreated inside his shell, before poking his head out after he saw me. I couldn't help but make a small smile. After all, he's an adorable little tortoise.

I trudged over to my bed and flopped down onto the mattress, instantly regretting it as my shell was still aching.

"Argh." I groaned, sitting upright and massaging my shoulder. I turned to Spike who was laying on his stomach on top of a crate stacked with comics that acted as my bedside table. He was staring blankly at me and then began to chew on a piece of lettuce.

I took this as a sign that he was waiting for me to talk.

"I just- they make me so mad." I started. Putting my rough callused hands on my forehead in emotional defeat.

"And this time it was really stupid because I wasn't even that irritated about the extra training. It was mostly because Donnie got to skip to go and follow (y/n) home, like a total creep." I paused, working through my thoughts.

"It would have made more sense for me to go instead of that numb-skull. I didn't jeopardize the mission by not checking to see if anyone was holding onto the mutagen. Plus (y/n) would be a lot safer if I was watching over her instead of Donnie. He can barely block one of my kicks. I can kick his shell any day."

Spike stopped chewing on his lettuce leaf to look up at me, as if understanding every word. I scratched his chin with one of my fingers before continuing.

"And god knows (y/n) needs protecting. She tried to fight Kraang droids with her keys. Sure she's got guts," I said smiling, thinking about when she brushed her fingers on mine when she handed me the mutagen vial. "But they're going to end up sprawled all over the concrete in an alleyway some place and eaten by rats, if someone isn't there to save her."

If I'm not there to save her. My mind added, but I just brushed it off.

Spike kept eating his lettuce.

At least someone gets me.
