"You didn't all have to come, you know." you sighed, rooting through your closet for your favorite pair of jeans.
"It's for your safety, (Y/N)." Leo replied calmly.
"Hey, I just wanted to see your house." Mikey said, picking up various objects. "Hair brushes are so weird. Hey D, can you make me a hairbrush?"
"You don't need one Mikey."
"But (Y/N) has one!" he whined, pointing it directly in Donatello's face indignantly.
"Mikey, that's because she has hair. You're bald."
Mikey looked at him at pouted, before a large smile began growing on his face.
"So wait, if I had hair, then you'd get me a hairbrush?"
"I mean, I guess." Donnie shrugged, returning his attention to your bookshelf.
You found the jeans that you were looking for and turned around, only to be two inches from Mikey and his goofy grin.
"(Y/N)," he said seriously, "Do you have any hair I can borrow? I swear on the last piece of jelly bean pizza in the fridge I'll give it back."
"Oh, um, sorry. My parents took the last of it with them on their trip." you joked, trying to keep a straight face.
"Sewer apples." he muttered, "Here's your hairbrush."
"Thanks," you replied. You then looked around the room in confusion, "Hey wait, where did Raph go?"
"Oh he's been gone for a while." Donnie responded indifferently, turning over a book to read it's description, "Something about, not wanting to sit around babysitting."
Blood rushed to your face immediately. What did Raph take you for? Some pathetic idiot?
"You guys don't feel like you're babysitting me, right?"
No one said anything, and you felt your face grow hotter.
"Right?" you repeated, still staring at them; none of the turtles would meet your eyes.
"I mean," Leo started, rubbing the back of his neck, "Not really. You're just, inexperienced."
"Yeah dudette, we like hanging out with you. Even if you suck at fighting." Mikey added casually, picking up one of the books on your side table. Donnie slapped him on the back of the head, making him drop in on the ground.
"Ow! Dude, you said you wouldn't do that anymore!"
"And you said you would stop being such an imbecile, yet here we are."
You shoved your jeans and your hairbrush into the (F/C) dufflebag forcefully. "That's... just... what I need," you spat in between breaths as you crammed all of your stuff into the bag. "To have friends... that think I'm some sort of moron."
"We don't think you're useless (Y/N)." Leo blurted quickly, his face flushed.
"Who said anything about being useless?" you retorted, not looking up at him as you continued to pack.
"What I mean is," he continued slowly, "We've all had years of experience training in ninjutsu. You haven't got any and right now you're being hunted by an advanced alien species with laser guns. We're just keeping you safe. Raph's just being...well, Raph. Don't let him get to you."
You brushed your hair out of your face and tucked it behind your ear, "Fine."
It was definitely not fine. You were going to make that irritating, self righteous grouch change his mind; even if it was the death of you.
After running around your house haphazardly trying collect a few more necessary items. You slung your duffle bag over your left shoulder.
"Still favoring the your injured lateral deltoid origin, I see." Donnie observed as he followed you out the window.
"And you care, why?" you snapped, not bothering to look back at him.
Donnie frowned, "Just making pleasant conversation."
The clouds rolled across the city skyline, encompassing the grey smog and mixing it with the beautiful colours of the sunrise. A cool wind hit rapidly and all of your hair flew backwards, weaving with the light.
"Hey (Y/N)?" Donnie asked quietly.
"What?"
"It- I mean, nevermind." He walked past you, his shell brushing against your arm as he began climbing up to the roof.
You followed him, not bothering to look back at your apartment. Your parents hadn't even left a note when they left, or arranged for someone to check in on you, or even bothered to ask if you were going to be staying with anyone while they were gone, for two months.
Some family they were.
Some legal guardians responsible for a minor's wellbeing they were.
You climbed up after Donnie, gripping mostly with your left hand.
Damn it, he was right. You were still favoring your right shoulder.
You reached the rooftop, before getting shoved back and falling down three rungs.
"Stay down!" Leo yelled, peering over the edge to look at you. He turned away and drew his katana out of the holders on his shell just in time to block a Kraang's laser gun.
How did they find us? He wondered, spinning mid air to slice another bot and decapitate the one he had previously blocked.
Thankfully, he had kept the Kraang bots from seeing you. If they didn't see their intended target, they might move onto a new neighbourhood or region of the city. Kraang weren't really that smart, just an advanced collective alien hivemind. He slice another bot clean through and watched as Donatello activated the blade on the tip on his naginata to stab a Kraang through the head swiftly. Now they were just waiting on Mikey.
Michelangelo had a strange way of fighting. In Leo's opinion he enjoyed it too much, in the wrong sort of way. Dodging, and running around his opponent, occasionally dancing and spinning out of their reach before dropping from above and knocking them out. What an ordeal for such a small task, especially considering it was a Kraang droid.
"If you wouldn't mind getting out of my way," he heard someone snarl, "You're blocking the ladder!"
Leonardo turned around to see you swing your duffle bag at the head of a Kraang droid who was looming over top of you, before making a well-placed, but poorly formed, kick to it's squishy pink stomach. The droid twitched, before splturing and toppling over into the alleyway.
You pulled your leg back wobbly, and picked up your bag. Leo didn't know what to say, and just stood in front of you, gawking.
You looked over your shoulder, what was he staring at? Only to see the shadow filled alleyway.
"Are you alright Leo?" you questioned, your anger waning. Kicking irritating kidnapping robots really clears the head.
The blue masked turtle closed his mouth abruptly. "Yep. I just, didn't think," There was a crash as the droid Mikey had been taunting was finally knocked to the ground. "You know what, never mind."
You shrugged your shoulders. "Can we get going then? This thing is stupid heavy."
He nodded, and opened his mouth.
"Don't you dare ask to carry it." you warned, cutting him off. "I have to be able to do somethings myself."
"I wasn't. I was going to suggest we get going." he responded, putting his katana into the leather holders on his back. "And no one said you weren't capable (Y/N)."
You sighed, "Raph did."
"Exactly," Mikey exclaimed proudly, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. "No one said you weren't capable."
You laughed, and together you and the three turtles headed across the rooftops.
Maybe you didn't have to get Raph back for what he said...
Wait, what were you thinking?
He totally deserved it.
