Yuri Katsuki
Walking around this sad dump of a town gets to you sometimes. There's hardly any life here. I've been told that all the life and color has been sucked out of the town, but I wouldn't know. I'm a sad case, I'm almost 17 and I have yet to find my soulmate. but the truth is, I don't want to find them. I don't want to see a face of disgust when they find out where and how I live. I live in a small, brown, rundown house with burgundy shingles that are falling down. My family was originally from Japan, but after my mother died because of childbirth, my father decided to move away, my family consists of my father, my sister Mari and me. But there's also a big brown poodle that follows me around ever since I gave it a small piece of bread a few months ago. I named him Makkachin.
I was on my way to a lake with him which had frozen over from the harsh winters cold. Money was scarce so I didn't really have anything to protect me from the cold, but I don't mind as long as I get to skate. I have my old, worn down gray ice skates tied around my neck as I walk over to the lake. Not many people know about it because its hidden by trees in a clearing of a small forest. I sit in the white snow on the side of the lake and started to tie up my skates. I stand up and fix the crooked glasses on the bridge of my nose and skated onto the ice with ease. Because I'm poor and couldn't afford a teacher, I needed to learn everything myself. I was skating backward and did a triple flip, I over-rotated a little but I was able to catch myself with a fingerless gloved hand on the ice.
I practiced a little more when Makkachin started barking, I saw two people walk over to the lake with skates in hand. One person had long hair that covered half his face, a blond I think. He wore black warm looking clothes and was shorter than the other person who was wearing a cape with a hood that covered the top half of his face. He slowly slipped it off his head and I was finally able to get a good look at him, he was extremely handsome, short hair with a fridge almost as white as the snow under his feet. He took off the cape and was wearing a warm white shirt with black trousers. They both started to put on his skates and came onto the ice. I stayed on one side of the lake while they stayed on the other. I was trying to do a quad flip, but I can't get enough rotations and ended up falling on my but. I groaned in frustration and stayed on the ice wrapping my arms around my knees. Some had skidded to a stop in front of me and I saw a hand offering me to help. I look up to face the tall handsome man. I felt a tug at my heart and I took his hand mumbling a small thanks for a blush heated my face.
"No problem." He said in a thick, sexy Russian accent. "I couldn't help but notice that you were trying to do a quad flip, can I give you some pointers if you'd like." I smiled brightly and nodded my head quickly, making sure my glasses didn't fall off. He laughed and helped me. "You see, you're trying to twist your body before you even get off the ground. As you skate towards the jump you want to turn your body a little bit in the opposite direction, and then after you jump, you spin in the right direction and that will give you more control and momentum. Watch me." He skated a little to gain momentum and made the jump and landed it as if it was a piece of cake. "Now you try." I nodded my head skated around a minute and jumped. During my spins, my glasses flew off my head but didn't let it bother me. I landed the jump with a little wobble, but I did it. I heard the man start to clap and I turned to him. I looked him in the eyes and paused. My head started to hurt a little. I placed my hands on my temples and closed my eyes, trying to sooth the sudden headache. I opened my eyes took to look back up at the man after a small headache went away and admired his eyes. They're such a pretty color.
wait...
WHAT?!
I rub my eyes and look at him one more time. Color, I can see color!! I can tell he can too by the way his face lit up and started to look at the world in a new perspective. I did too, and I started to cry. Everything was too lively, so colorful. I look back at the man, no, my soulmate and started to skate over to him. He wrapped his arms around me and buried his face in my neck as I returned the tight hug.
"I finally found you." He whispered. I giggled as Makkachin ran up to us, slipping a few times on the ice and jumped onto us. My soulmate laughed, and it was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.
"Hello, who's this little guy." He started to pet him, then Makkachin jumped on him causing him to sit on the ground and started to lick his face making him laugh even more.
"This is Makkachin, my dog. My name is Yuri." I said. He looked at me shocked.
"Another Yuri?" I looked at him confused. "Hey, Yuri!" He called out. "Come here for a second." The boy that my soulmate came with was in the middle of doing a triple salchow when he heard his name being called and almost fell but thankfully caught himself. He skated over and stopped just behind my soulmate. "Yuri, this is Yuri.Yuri this is my soulmate, Yuri." He said with a small giggle. I looked at the other Yuri and started to giggle and waved my hand. He smiled lightly at me and said a small hi.
"As for me," my soulmate said. "My name is Viktor," I said his name once or twice to see how it sounds when I say it, it sounds familiar but I can't remember how I know it. I looked at him still on the ice with Makkachin just chilling on him. I giggle and sit down.
"Aren't you cold, those clothes don't look very warm?" Viktor asked me. I shrugged my shoulders.
"Its the warmest clothes I have, there's not much you can do when you're poor in this rundown bump." I smile a little at him.
"B-but, you're going to catch a cold!" He skated over to his cloak and shook off a little bit of snow and he skated back and wrapped it around me. It's a lot warmer then it looks. I snuggled into it and sighed in delight. Viktor then pulled me closer and intensified the heat, kissing me softly on the nose. "I don't want my soulmate to get sick." I blush lightly as he said that we should probably get off the ice. All four of us take off our skates and being to walk back to my town, Viktor wanted to see it. Finally, we get to a small marketplace that was mostly empty. Now I understand why people call the colors in our town bleak.
"You live here?" Yuri asked. I nod my head sadly and start walking along the shops. Suddenly, a small boy around the age of three or four ran into me, scaring me half to death, him falling onto of me. I often see him around the shops, hoping to get some scraps for dinner.
"S-sowwy." He says meekly.
"Don't worry sweetheart. But you have to be careful, you know how mean people can be around here." He nods his head in understanding and slowly walks away. I stand back up and look back at Viktor and Yuri. I look back at the small boy walking away sadly.
"The King has put such a heavy tax on all of us. One week his parents didn't have enough money for taxes, so the King decided that they would pay with their lives. They managed to save him but ever since then he's been fending for himself on the streets. I try to help him as much as i can. I knew his parents but whenever I asked him if he wanted to come home with me he says that he doesn't want my family to be responsible for another mouth to feed with food already being scarce." Viktor comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist and puts his head down on the nape of my neck.
"I didn't know it was this bad." He sniffled, more to himself than to me.
"Its fine, there's nothing you could do." Suddenly a loud bell rang through the town. "Oh no," I say as Makkachin starts to whine rubbing his head on my leg. Yuri and Viktor look at me in confusion. "It's tax collection day."
