"You can count on that."

I laughed.

I laughed so hard I thought I was going to pee my pants.

Phoebe? Dead?

Ha! Yeah right!

Phoebe was one of the most alive people I've ever met! She always had a smile on her face, and her laugh was contagious.

There was no way Phoebe is dead.

"Oh yeah? How'd she die?" I asked.

The Principal looked at me like I had gone crazy. "She killed herself Megan."

Again, I fell into hysterics. "You've got to be kidding me! Is this some kind of prank? Okay Phoebe, you can come out now!" I yelled.

I looked around the office, expecting Phoebe to pop out screaming, "Gotcha!" but it didn't happen.

Finally, realization sunk in.

If this was a prank, how did Phoebe get the Principal in on it? Why were all of the teachers looking at me like I was a lost puppy?

What's going on?

My voice quieted down and I said, "Really?"

"I'm so sorry Megan."

I put my head in my hands and took a few deep breaths. This is not happening. Phoebe is not dead.

She did not kill herself.

"How?" I found myself asking.

The Principal cleared his throat. "She swallowed a bottle of pills."

"Why?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

"We don't know."

"Why?" I yelled.

"Megan, I'm going to need you to calm down."

I laughed. "Why? What are you going to do? Suspend me? Well you know what? Go ahead! I don't care anymore. My best friend killed herself and no one knows why, and you aren't going to do anything about it?"

"There really isn't anything we can do."

"So just because you think there is nothing you can do, you're just going to sit on your ass all day?"

"Megan! Do not disrespect me."

I grabbed my stuff. "Fine, I'm sorry." I said coldly. "But while you sit in this school and do nothing, I'm going to find out why she did this. Things are going to change. You can count on that."

I walked out of the office and decided to head home. I couldn't stay at school any longer.

The school wasn't far from my house so I walked home. I needed time to think about everything.

She killed herself.

She killed herself.

Those words kept replaying in my mind.

There was no way I lost my best friend. I saw her yesterday, and she was as happy as she could be. This is not happening.

I arrived at my front door, shocked. I had been running this whole time. I reach up to brush the hair off of my face and my face was soaked with tears. When did I start crying?

I walked into the house and as soon as I walked in, my mom grabbed me and pulled me into a hug. "I am so sorry, honey. It's going to be okay."

That was all I needed to burst into tears.

My best friend was gone.

Gone.

Woo.. *big sigh of relief.* Glad I'm done writing this chapter. The next few chapters will be filler chapters, so yeah.

I hope you guys like this!

I can't even begin to think of how Megan feels. Knowing her best friend killed herself and she couldn't stop her. Ugh, it's just so hard!
