CHAPTER 18.
*three weeks later*
Chresanto and I were at the mall looking for more baby items. We stopped by Babies R Us to get more toys, and teething rings. When we got to the register, the cashier seemed to recognize me.
"Nikki?" She asked.
"That's me. Do I know you from somewhere?" I said puzzled.
"No, not personally, but I'm a huge fan of your modeling. You're just so beautiful! And wow I didn't know you were pregnant. Staying out of the spotlight for now, huh?"
"Yeah. I thought it would be way too much work being pregnant and trying to still take bikini shoots." We laughed.
"Can I take a picture with you and have your autograph for my daughter? Your boyfriend can get in too!" She asked nervously.
"For sure! "
"Hey, all your items are on me. You're so nice."
"No, no. We insist." Santo chimed in. I shook my head in agreement.
"No really. It's fine."
"Okay then. Thank you so-" Oh my god. I looked tdown. My water had just broken. It became really hard to breathe, and really hot. Santo rushed to my side.
"Babe? Are you okay? Mam, could you please call the ambulance! The baby is coming!" As the cashier dialed 911, Santo and I called our parents to let them know what was happening. Everyone agreed to meet us at the hospital in about 20 minutes.
*20 minutes later*
Dr. Banks greeted me as I was being hooked up to IV's. She turned to Santo. "Are you the father of this child?"
"Yes mam." She then turned to me.
"Wow, so this is why you've been out of the limelight for a while." She winked. By the time our parents arrived, I was having excruciating contractions. Hunched over towards the right side of the hospital bed, I made Santo lay with me and rub my back. I wasn't quite ready to push yet, but it was coming soon.
*1 hour into labor*
Dr. Banks finally came in with the epidural. Within five minutes the contractions went from feeling like getting stabbed in the vagina, to normal period cramps. By 10:30, I was ready to push. Everyone got into position: Santo held my right leg, my mom held my left, my dad and Santo's parents held my hands.
"Okay, Nikki. Give me one big push. Everyone count to ten, and then you can relax." Dr. Banks said. I felt the baby slowly moving.
"Come on, you can do it." Santo said, watching what was happening.
"Okay, another big push. Ready." Dr. Banks asked. "Go." After this, Dr. Banks wanted one final push and hopefully they could get the baby out.
"Wait I have to sneeze." I said. "Achoo!" No sooner than that, I heard a faint cry. The baby had come out! Everyone took pictures of Chresanto cutting the umbilical cord. Labor was over. I was a new mom.
