Vixen was sitting in her office staring out the window, completely unfocused. She woke up this morning and started to text Daniel like she had done every morning for the last six months. Then she remembered what had happened last night. She remembered that Daniel was not the man that she thought he was and she was done with him.
She heard the beep of the intercom that her assistant was buzzing, which meant something had to be wrong. She had told her she didn't want to be bothered. She pressed the button on her high tech desk that Steve Jobs had created for her as 'congratulations on the success of the company' a year ago. "Sarah, I said I didn't want to be disturbed for at least three hours!"
"Yes, ma'am, I know you did and it has actually been five hours. There is a gentleman here to see you and he has been waiting the entire time," Sarah said nervously.
"Excuse me?" Vixen said. She would address her being in this office for five hours and not getting one thing done later.
No emails answered, no sketches done, nothing. She would address that as soon as she found out who was waiting for her.
"Sarah, did you say someone has been waiting five hours to see me? Who?" Vixen said frustrated and a little confused. Her assistant was not anything if not efficient and she had not told her that someone had been waiting to see her for five hours.
"It's Daniel, Ma'am," she said lowering her voice to tell Vixen who was waiting.
Sarah was like a friend to Vixen as well as an employee, so of course, she had told her what happened.
"He said he won't leave until you see him, Vixen," she added in even lower tones.
Are you fucking kidding me? Vixen was thinking. He came to my business with this shit? If he thought that he could come here and intimidate her and make her feel less than nothing, then he had another think coming.
Vixen was not anything if she was not a professional woman but right now she wanted to go out to the lobby of her building. It had room for up to 12,000 employees. The signature four-story building had about 2.8 million square feet of space — just a bit smaller than the Pentagon, which has 3.7 million square feet of office space. Veneer finishes, floors, and no gaps or seams showing in the walls and ceilings, it had an impeccable interior design and was the talk of the business world. She wanted to forget all of that and walk out there, smack him and spit in his face.
Pull it together, girl, she thought. Let him come in and say his peace and keep it moving. You have done things harder than this. Vixen, you can do this.
"Its okay, Sarah. Give me five minutes and send him in," she said calmly to her assistant.
"Vixen, are you going to be okay?" Sarah said, concerned about her boss and friend.
"Yes, just give me a minute to freshen up and send him in," she said with a calmness she was not feeling. She got up and went to the in-suite bathroom, grabbing her makeup bag from her purse on the way.
When she had closed the bathroom door and leaned against it breathing heavily, she realized how hard her heart was beating. She was about to see Daniel again. Twice in two days, this had to be some type of punishment from God. She laid her makeup bag down on the vanity and looked in the mirror. She was wearing a Vera Wang black pinstripe business suit. The jacket was a fishtail jacket with a one button closure and a wide collar, the skirt was also fish tail with a back zipper and a hook eye closure. Vixen had all of her clothes tailored to fit her impeccably. She was wearing a white lace front five button closure blouse underneath that clung to her LaPerla lace bra and panty set like a second skin with a pair of closed toe Mary Jane pumps. With her hair in a ponytail she looked the epitome of business class and sophistication. The fact that the size of her suit was a sixteen did not take away from how good she looked.
