"I have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?"

My doctor, Dr. Henderson, came back into the room I was placed in with what I'm assuming were the results of my x-ray and the other tests they ran on me.

My doctor looked to be a middle aged woman. She looked like she was a little younger than my mom. I'd tell you my mom's age, but you never reveal a woman's age. She had brown skin and model like facial features. I wish I was exaggerating, but this was like some shit out of a movie. In other words, she was fine as fuck. I had half a mind to flirt with her, but I wasn't trying to get murdered.

I was pretty surprised when Nadia, Aniya, and Chastity showed up at the hospital. I was a little sad that they missed my game, but after they explained everything to me, I wasn't trippin'. I wasn't able to talk to my mom for very long because I was about to go get my x-rays done, but I was glad that I got to speak to her.

It's crazy how wrong everything went today, but it went right at the same time. My mom was alive and well and we were going to Nationals. Well, my teammates were going.

"Give me the bad news first." I said prepared for pretty much anything. After today, there wasn't really much that could disappoint me anymore than I already had been.

"Okay, well according to the results of your x-ray, your ankle is broken." She said to which I just nodded my head.

"Not to be a smart ass, but I kind of figured that." I said making her chuckle.

"Well, you are the one that got injured, so it's not surprising that you came to that conclusion before us professionals and our fancy medical technology."

My doctor seemed pretty unfazed by my remark.

"Aside from the obvious, the type of fracture you sustained was a bimalleolar fracture."

Dr. Henderson showed me my x-ray and I could see where my ankle bones had broken apart.

"What you see here is that your lateral malleolus and your medial malleolus are both broken." She explained. "With this type of fracture, your ankle is unstable. Because of the type of fracture you have, surgery is highly recommend."

The word "surgery" made my stomach turn. I've never gotten surgery before. Not to sound like a bitch, but I really wish my mom was here.

"So what's the good news?" I asked wondering what good could come out of this.

"I was hoping you'd ask for the good news first, but your CT scan and MRI results came back as well and those indicated that there was no further damage to your ankle as far as ligaments go. It might not seem like good news, but this just means a smoother surgery and healing process for you. I know you're an athlete, so I figured that would take some of the stress off of you."

"Considering I stopped comprehending what you were saying at lateral malle-whatever. It really doesn't. You really shouldn't use all those medical terms when speaking to patients. A simple your ankle is broken and you need surgery would have sufficed. It was kinda cute how you went all nerdy on me though."

I gave Dr. Henderson a smile as she blushed at my words.

"Um, I'm sorry. Sometimes I forget to speak in a way that the patient will understand. However, you got the gist of what I said. I'm going to schedule your surgery for the morning. Nurse Carol will be back with some pain medication to get you through the night."
