Chapter 5••• "What do we do now?" I meant for my voice to sound stern and strong, but it instead comes out weak and small. Liam turns to look at me with a look of fright or sadness, I do not know.
"10 years ago they sent out someone for being marked, same goes with years before that. I say we find them. They have to go somewhere right?"
I try to strengthen my voice more, but it only gets worse. "Ok," I squeak. He gives me a worried look and grabs my arm. He pulls me in towards him, and wraps me in his arms. He is probably a good foot taller than me, and I feel like a child.
"It's gonna be ok. We will be ok, I promise." He let's go and looks me in the eyes as he promises. I nod my head slightly. "So let's get started," he smirks.
After we walk for hours, I realize the sun has just set. It's really dark in the woods, and I can't see anything. All I heard is the faint breathing of Liam, and the bushes' leaves crashing into each other. "We should stop for the night. I'm exhausted," I say while breathing heavily. He crosses the 5 foot gap between us and stands right in front of me. I still can't see his face. His blonde hair and beautiful green eyes. His crooked smile.
"Your right. I can't see anything, we could be walking in circles," he whispers as if trying not to wake someone up, but it's only us out here. Liam still has on his dress coat. It's really hot out, but he kept it on. He places the coat on the ground at my feet and pats it. He smiles and says, "for you." And I smile back. I sit down on the soft cloth and lay there for a while. But then I remember my dreams. They will be back tonight, and again tomorrow, and the next night. I sit straight up and hold my head between my hands. My breathing becomes shaky and I stand up to take a walk. I need to let out the scream bubbling in my throat. Before I get 4 steps, I feel a hand come down on my shoulder. Liam. "I didn't know you were awake," I say.
"I could say the same to you. What's wrong?" He takes his hand off my shoulder as I turn around. I can't fight off the fear and tears on my face. He looks startled when he notices.
"I can't sleep or else the dreams will be back." I pull my hand up to my face to wipe my tears, but he beats me to it. He holds wrist and pulls me back to where his coat was placed.
"What's it about," he asks. I suck in a breath.
"I don't know how to describe it really. It's kinda like I'm frozen. I can't move or speak or even blink. There are people? There are people... sometimes I can see them, others I can't. They are trying to reach for me for help, but I can't help them I can't move to help them," tears are streaming down my face and I take deep breath to regain myself. "I want to help them so badly. I want to move, but when I try it hurts. It burns, like a fire inside of me, and there is no way to stop it."
He stares at me for a little. We sit in silence for a couple of minutes, and then I am the next to speak. "What is yours like?"
He takes a surprisingly shaky breath like he might cry. "I sit in this room, and each night it could be someone different, but usually it's the same person. It only changes sometimes to one other person. Usually it's my sister, Kate. Anyway, I'm sitting in this chair, well tied to it. There is this guy with a mask on and he holds my sister buy the wrists tied together behind her back. She cries, and he tries to pull her out of the house. Like he is kidnapping her. I'm tied down though, I can't do anything to stop. I'm just tied there." He lowers his head and yawns. He looks like he is shy.
"You don't have to answer this, but who is the other person. You know, the one who is in your dreams when it's not your sister?"
He looks back up and lays down. Minutes go by before he answers. "You." And then he is silent. Asleep.
I must have fallen asleep, but I'm awakened by a sound. Liam is right next to me, so it's probably an animal. I stand up, still shaky from the dream I had. The same one as always. Again with Liam's face, but that time he was trying to do something. I heard the noise before I found out what. I walk over the the line of thick bushes. When I heard nothing I turn around, and almost scream. Someone puts a hand over my mouth and pulls me into the forest, and out of our camp clearing. I try to scream, but I can't. I try to move but I can't. Liam. He is still asleep, and this guy can't be alone. I try to break free to help Liam, but I can't move, and I can't speak. Just like my dream. J u s t l i k e m y d r e a m! I kick and punch, trying to break free but I can't. I bite his hand and he let's go long enough for me to let out the loudest scream I ever did.
"LANE!! LANE WHER ARE YOU?!" Liam keeps screaming my name, and I get one more scream out before I'm thrown to the ground hard. The guy kicks me in my side. Then again, and again, and again. I scream each time, but my voice becomes only an inaudible rasp. The man falls to the ground, and I'm lifted into a set of arms. Liam. His worried expression and his eyes, and what tells me it's him. I hear voices behind us yelling. Liam is running threw the forest, which is turning in a blur. Black fuzzes my vision, and I know I'm not staying awake for long. "Hey you're ok Lane. You'll be ok. I promised you earlier you'll be fine, and I never break a promise." I hear his heart beat racing inside his chest, and I drift off to the repetitive sound of a thump, thump, thump.
~I realize as I'm floating through blackness that our dreams came true. In Liam's he sees me be kidnapped sometimes, and tonight I was. And like in mine, I couldn't do anything to protect myself, or Liam. One more thing that happened. I realized what Liam was trying to do in my dream tonight. He was trying to save me.~ And he just did.
