Devin's P.O.V
Just when I thought Anna had finally calmed down and gone to sleep, I wake up at an ungodly time, because this girl is definitely not sleeping.
Her face is illuminated by her phone, her dark blue eyes narrowed at the screen, before she holds the phone to her ear.
"Anna what the fuck!" I hiss and she turns to look at me.
"Oh sorry, but this is kinda perfect." She replies and puts her phone on speaker. I see she's calling Jace. What the actual fuck happened that she is calling him now, can't this wait until the morning.
"Anna, I'm pretty damn sure this can wait until the morni-"
"Shut it Devin!" She shuts me up with a glare and I sigh.
To my surprise Jace actually picks up, but it's clear the guy's barely awake.
"Oh my god Anna, it's like, too early in the fucking morning." Jace says sleepy.
"I don't give a shit, wake the fuck up." Anna replies harshly.
Jace groans. "You're gonna wake Devin up."
"Already did. Now both of you listen and before you start whining again, yes I really needed to discuss this now." Anna says.
"Devin already knows this, but my cousin is clearly still after me." She begins and starts to tell Jace everything. From the random employees glaring at her to the presumably fake doctor delaying my release.
"But, just when I thought things had already gotten worse enough, I learned we are everything but safe here." She states and I swear I heard a hint of panic in her voice. "Ever since I was normally able to move around again, I've been trying to go on a midnight stroll here, but unfortunately I haven't succeeded just yet. Of course I tried again tonight, but when I got to the end of the hall I noticed an unfamiliar group of guards. They were definitely not actual guards from St. Russel."
I look over at Anna who seems lost in thought while she's staring at the wall.
"Go on." Jace encourages her over the phone.
"Well first of all, their uniforms weren't complete, just like the probably fake nurse and doctor. Second, I'm pretty damn sure I recognized two of them from the festival. Third," Anna hesitates "they were all carrying guns. Guns aren't allowed in St. Russel. Heck even police officers are asked to leave the guns out of the hospital if it's not necessary to bring them in."
"So long story short, we gotta get the hell out of here before we get shot, again." She says.
"I'm pretty sure my dad will lend me his minivan for this occasion." Jace says after a while.
"But can you just leave a hospital?" I wonder.
"Well you can just check out, for me it won't be a problem since I'm actually already released and regarding you, I'm not even sure if you're still checked in." Anna says hesitant.
"What?! Why?"
"Okay, I'm sure I'm still checked in, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to ask for toilet paper. I know it's weird, but after random people kept asking for toilet paper here they started asking for a room number and name. You mentioned the other nurse only prepared one plate for this room, meaning there's only one person still checked in on this room." She starts her theory.
"It might actually explain why your regular nurse didn't stop by or say anything. She was only your nurse, since I didn't need one. If you're checked out, she's not assigned to this room anymore. It would also explain why your normal doctor didn't stop by to give an update."
