A Duelists Love Triangle

Chapter 8

Yugis POV
I was just quietly putting the new games that grandpa has got in stock on the shelves. I couldn't stop thinking of Joey, I still feel guilty that I couldn't hand him the notes myself. However just when I was thinking of Joey, I heard a loud bang and instantly dropped my box from the shock of the sound. My heart was racing as was attempting to calm myself.

I turned to the door and my face went as bright as a tomato. There was Kaiba, at my grandpas game shop door and looking at me. I can't believe it! I never thought he would come to me!

"K-kaiba?" I stuttered still a little flabbergasted from the shock of the noise. He instantly walked up to me and he had walked me into a corner like a predator trapping it's prey. He then slammed a hand against the wall and leaned down to get our eyes level.

"Yugi. I need to have a talk with you. I don't want to waste any time." Kaiba spoke sternly. What could he want to talk to me about?! Did Joey tell him that I love him?! Oh this can't be good, I'm not ready to talk about this. Not yet!

"Um... Sure Kaiba but let's go to my room for some more privacy as there are people who could come into the shop at any moment." I said quietly avoiding his pricing blue eyes. He stood up at straight removing his hand from the wall and gave a single nod signalling to show him to my room.

I walk led up the stairs with him following me and opened the door for Kaiba. He looked at me slightly suspiciously, but let it go and walked in. I offered him a seat at my desk, where he sat down.

"I'll be one second Kaiba I need to go and finish putting the games on the shelves, and then turn the sign on the door to say closed." I said hoping that he wouldn't mind.

"...Ok don't rush yourself." Kaiba replied softly. Kaibas not being harsh and telling me to hurry. Something's wrong, Kaiba never and I mean never talks with care to anyone! Whatever he wants to talk to me about must be serious.

I then walk out of my bedroom door and close it gently after taking one last glimpse of Kaiba and trot along.down stairs to finish my chores.

Kaibas POV
Yugi finally left me alone in his room. I want him to take as long as possible, because then I can investigate his room to see if there are any clues, even miniscule clues to why Wheelers been acting up.

I start with his desk because that's what I'm closest to. The stuff on his desk isn't very important, just casual stationery and homework.

I then look at his drawers to find out if he's hiding anything. One of the drawers has a lock on them. Hmm, already suspicious. I look in the two drawers above to see if I can find the key, however I find a note that says: 'If place of key is forgotten: clue is 'treasure'.'

What on earth does that mean? Oh well who cares, I'm starting to run out of time. I wonder what he could mean by treasures... Millennium puzzle? Some sort of money? I'm getting impatient now!

I walk around his room a little to see if I can find any ideas on what Yugis' treasure could be. I pick up a photograph next to Yugis  bed. Hm this photograph was taken at one of  the earlier duel tournaments, where Yugi beat me. The photograph, consists of Yugi and I standing on stage, where he's smiling bashfully and I'm looking at the camera emotionlessly, with his friends in the background. Hold on a minute... Of course why didn't I think of it before! Yugis treasure isn't jewellery or money, its a metaphorical one: his friends.

I open up the backing of the photographs frame to find the key placed flat inside. Well at least I found it however now I need to unlock that drawer, to find out more information on Joey.

I put the key into the drawers lock and unlocked it. It slid open to reveal a diary and many photographs of myself taken from articles in magazines. What on earth have I come across...

I decide to keep the key and then the diary as it was the most important source of information and close the drawer shut gently.

I wonder why Yugi has so many pictures of me... Frankly I would say I find it rather disturbing, however I can't help it if people want to admire me for my dueling.

I sit back down as I hear the door begin to creak open. Yugi was standing at the door carrying a tray with two cups of tea on it.

He give one of the cups to me and then takes the other one for himself placing the tray down on the floor beside his bed.

"So... Kaiba, what did you want to talk to me about?" Yugi said clearly avoiding eye contact. Why is the midget fanboy doing that? I don't like being avoided.

"I want to know what's wrong with Joey, and I have a feeling that you know exactly what's up with him, so spill it now." I spoke with a slight snarl. I just can't seem to keep any emotions under control today, as the CEO of Kaiba Corp I should have my head screwed on straight!

"Well... All I know is that he's off with a cold, or at least that's what his dad said." Yugi mumbled. Hmph, is he really telling me that thinking I will believe it? Not to mention it's been going on for longer than that.

"Yugi, don't play coy with me. You are seriously telling me you haven't noticed anything wrong with the mu- I mean Joey before he went off school?" I say starting to lose my temper a little.

"I'm telling the truth Kaiba, Joey's got nothing wrong with him except a cold! The only thing I've noticed is that he sometimes looks back at me in class, and he's always laughing and smiling with friends!" Yugi raised his voice a little. That's... Something I've never heard Yugi do before, I thought he was more of a weakling...

"I can't believe you call yourself a friend! Even though I'm his rival I can tell something's wrong with him! He's depressed, faking those smiles and laughs and not to mention instill don't know why he was crying! You are seriously trying to say there's nothing wrong with him?!" I shouted. I didn't want to reach the point where I would lose my cool, however I can only take so much innocence and naivety before I break. He's really pushing the limits I didn't think I had.

Yugi was clearly about to start crying, however he then stopped as I saw the millennium puzzle light up. He looked totally changed, much more calm. I've seen this happen before... I believe Yugi and his friends called him... Yami?

He the spoke staring me right in the eyes.

"Kaiba. We need to talk."
