Mum and dad brought my sister and I to the riverside as they habitually did. There was a ramp leading down to the edge of the river.
While mum and dad were busy in conversation, my sister decided to toddle too close to the ramp and began sliding down towards the river. 3 year old me quickly noticed and slid down to the rescue.
I had to grab onto her waist and try to stop us from sliding further. I think I remember even calling for help as I was so scared.
Eventually I managed to bring her back up to safety and my parents took her away. But I found myself stuck now and couldn't climb back up the ramp.
I was terrified of falling into the river and tried desperately to grab onto pebbles as I scrambled for my life. I must have cried for my parents to help me but they either hadn't noticed, or they thought I was being silly and left me to deal with my ordeal on my own.
But al hamdu li'LLAH, after much struggling, I finally managed to get back up the ramp. Relief is probably an understatement for what I felt at that moment.
Al hamdu liLLAHi Rabbil 'Aalameen.
