Emily's POV :
"Emily Meadow Winters!" I heard a shrill female voice screech from downstairs. A nice greeting for a wonderful morning.
Before rushing towards the hollering woman I made sure that the simple pale pink dress that I was wearing looked presentable and the black thick mop of hair that reached my waist was in a neat bun. Patting my dress a few more times I opened the door and shouted, "coming madam."
As the door was about to close my gaze fell on Ira. She was sitting on the branch out of my window looking at me with her lapis lazuli eyes.
Ira has been my companion ever since I moved in this house. While I was sad she would fly to me and chirp in her sweet voice as if trying to talk and when I felt happy we would both sing. When I dance she flies above me making all the loneliness fade away. She even sings lullabies for me at night. I named her Ira the day we met.
She is a beautiful bird. Her feathers a mix of bright colours and swirling patterns of gold and silver adorn her wings and neck.
Waving her quickly I closed the door and hurried down the spiralling stairs. The wood creaking as I went past them.
Descending the last flight of stairs I dashed towards the living room. As I approached, I could hear many voices discussing something but what made me halt was my name spoken by an unfamiliar female voice. My eyebrows scrunched in confusion as I stood there for a mere two seconds before shaking my head and proceeding towards the room.
The moment I entered the room, all the commotion died down and every pair of eye stared at me. Trying to hide the nervousness, I smiled politely and gave a courtesy before standing near the corner of the room.
Moments after when the silence remained undisturbed, I raised my head only for my eyes to meet with light brown ones. Lady Sage Rosa Knight, wife of Sir Triskele Brad Knight and foster mother of mine was staring at me with a gleam in her eyes.
Now that isn't creepy at all! She mostly avoids looking at me and whenever her gaze falls on me, it is either of disgust or anger or a spicy mix of both.
Averting my eyes I saw two women and a man sitting on the sofa assessing me keenly. The first woman looked to be around twenty dressed in a long white dress decorated with orange, yellow and red floral patterns. A thin golden chain adorned her neck and the sunlight streaming through the window was making her green eyes glow brilliant.
The woman next to her seemed older than Lady Sage. Her features were sililar to that of the younger woman. The man sitting at other end had the same brilliant green eyes appearing a little older than the lady beside him.
They must be her parents.
The older woman turned to my mother and gave her a small nod with a smile. At this, mother turned to me and said "they are your new parents Emily. Go and pack your belongings, you are leaving with them in an hour."
I stood there for a good two minutes with my mouth agape and eyes wide in disbelief. I was sure unprepared for the news but the thing that shocked me was that Lady Sage said that to me, looking in the eye with a smile.
The only thing that made me realise that this was all happening for real and not some strange dream was the look by my former foster mother after the smile faded. A look of disapproval and pure disgust.
I closed my mouth shut and gave her a nod. "Yes, madam" was the only thing I could mumble before slowly walking out of the room.
My eyes burning from unshed tears I ran up the stairs to my room. The tears weren't for them. My foster family. They came with the knowledge that now I'll have to leave my only friend. Ira. My companion for years.
