Your arms wrapped around me
The sent of your favorite shampoo
In my nose
Your long, thick hair managing to
Dance its way onto my shoulders
Your giggles bubble up your chest
Shaking us both
As we joke about characters
On the television in front of us
The fluffy blanket wrapped around our shoulders
And the pseudo fireplace heating our toes
The t.v. flickers
I pull my sleeves down
Readjust
The room drops ten degrees
My mind goes cold
I want to move closer
To fold into you
But i drift away
Your scent becomes a dank earthy one
And your hair scratches at my neck
I brush it off
Getting antsy
There's a scream clawing at my throat
I shove it down
I tug again at my sleeves
You make another joke
I fight to force a giggle and grin
Up from the depths of my gut
I fight to add another fireplace to the room
I need it to heat my frozen insides.
I fight to appreciate your company
Your care and love
I fight to tell you
But i lose
I pull the now matted blanket closer
Around my frigid chest
Praying for a glimpse of warmth
Or at least your mint shampoo to return
I tug again at my sleeves
