Chapter 3: Pain Isn't Just Physical
Johnny's POV:
"Goodbye, Johnny."
I jerked up. Where am I?I took in my surroundings. White bed, television with the news on, chairs by the bed, a tube in my arm. I'm in a hospital... All the memories from last night come crashing down to me.
Alli.
I try to get up, the IV thing pulling me back. I wince in pain. I sit back down in anger. I look around for that control thing that calls the nurse. When I find it, I furiously push the 'call' button.
A nurse runs in along with two others, who seem to be carrying some type of medicine.
"What's wrong?" A nurse asks desperately.
"I'm fine." I say coldly.
"Then?" Another asks, obviously confused with my tone.
"Where's Alli?" I demand.
"Alli?" The brunette nurse asks.
"Allison... The girl that came with him..." The blond one with the glasses whispers.
They all look a bit apprehensive.
"Yes, her, where is she?" I say.
"Uh..." Two of them say.
"She's alive." The quiet one says, "Now, we need you to sleep, so we'll give you something for that."
She seems more professional, the way she just told me that. What did she mean with alive? I mean, she didn't tell me she was alright, so what's going on? She injects something in the IV.
Is Alli alright, I know Mark is capable of anything, he shot my arm, it doesn't hurt anymore. What did he do to Alli? I know she's here, but why did the nurse only tell me she was "alive"? And the way she said it. I can't help but wonder what exactly happened to Alli. She's like my sister; I can't just forget about her
"Why didn't you tell him what happened, Rachel?" One of the nurses says.
I start feeling sleepy, my eyes drooping.
"He can't know yet."
......
I woke up, the same way I did before. My thoughts all over the place, confused about where I am.
"That was it for tonight, folks. Have a great ev-"
The news guy stops.
"This just in, a young girl named Allison,"
I turn my attention to the TV.
A picture of Alli pops up on the screen.
What?
"Has suffered a major tragedy. According to our sources, she was found in the house of a friend, the friend found too, injured and the attacker, still intact. A neighbor called the police right when she heard gunshots. Here's Layla with the neighbor."
The screen switches to a lady, standing next to my neighbor... Oh my...
"I'm Layla Turner, with me, is Mrs. Parker, the lady who witnessed the horrible accident." She turns to Mrs. Parker. "Tell me, what exactly happened?"
Mrs. Parker hesitates, her eyes red. When she speaks, I know she has been crying.
"I... I was just at home, minding my own business. I heard a gunshot, followed by another, and I've lived here for years. I know when something isn't right. I knew they were coming from Johnny's house, oh that sweet child. I started panicking, and I called the cop. At first I had heard screaming, but before that man, Mark, walked up and knocked the door. Never liked that jerk. He was Alli's stepfather, still is. And... When the police came, and found out he had hurt both of those sweet children, I couldn't take it. I've known them since they were little. His parents were devastated when I called them. I really hope that they're alright, it's been more than a week." She finishes.
