Okay so, wow. I thought I already published this chapter and it turns out that I didn't. Sorry that I suck
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Danielle's POV
I awoke slowly. Soft morning light was coming in through the top of the tent. I've been sleeping outside for the past week, aa
Long with Cameron and my Grandma. There's still no sign of Sophia, but the adults are still looking for her every day.I wander into the kitchen where Patricia is making eggs. "Need any help?" I ask.
"Sure. Could you hand me the salt and pepper? Maybe I could put some ham in here too." she says. She seems sad. I know I would be a mess if Carl died right now, and we're not even dating. She was married to Otis for 19 years. I dont know how she does it. I hand her the salt and pepper and then sit down by Glenn and Maggie at the table. They were talking before I sat down but their conversation dissipated almost immediately once I took a seat.
"Morning." Maggie said. The room stayed silent until Carl came to join us, taking a seat next to me. He nodded a good morning to Glenn and Maggie before turning to me.
"So, what are we gonna do today?" he asked.
"Well, of course we have to explore the whole farm." I replied.
"Of course." He replied.
After we ate a satisfying breakfast, (Patricia did end up putting ham in the eggs and it was delicious) Carl and I walked outside to start our exploration. We had to take it easy for the day since Carl still needed assistance to go on walks and it was tiring for him to do so. We listened in on Rick's conversation with the other adults. They were going to split up and search for Sophia in different grids of the map they were looking at. Almost everyone was going. The only people who didn't go from our group was Lori, Glenn, Dale, Carol, my Grandma, and Carl and I. Jimmy was the only one from Hershel's group that went. T-Dog, Jimmy, Cameron, and Andrea went in one quadrant, Shane and Rick in another, and Daryl went to the river by himself.
We decided to go to the stables first. Before the apocalypse, I loved riding horses. I didn't ride for sport, but it was fun to do in my free time. Dr. Jenner's brother owned a ranch in the Blue Ridge Mountains where people could pay to go on ride horses for an hour or two. We went up there at least once every two months, and I always had a good time. My mother and I would always race and the loser bought ice cream for the winner. I usually won, but I always knew my mom went easy on me. And now, we can never do that again.
After about an hour, I take Carl back to his room so he can rest. We talk for a bit until he falls asleep, then I go back outside to help Laurie and Carol with laundry. I normally didn't do laundry before all of this, but these days I try to help however I can. I try to listen to the conversation, but I eventually just zone out and daydream. I think about Sophia, and how much I miss her. Has she really only been missing for a week? So much has happened since she's been gone. Carol seems to be keeping it together. She's obviously worried, but she must be going through a lot right now, and she's handing it very well. I hope to one day be as strong as she is.
I'm back inside with Carl, just messing around and telling stories when we hear shouting from outside. I help him to his feet and we make our way to the RV to see what all the commotion is. Rick, Shane, T-Dog, and Glenn are running to the edge if the forest towards a walker. Squinting, I can see that the walker is... Holding something? As the men get closer, they slow down and the walker stops moving towards them. Rick has his gun pointed towards it but he doesn't shoot. It looks like the walker is talking to him, but that's impossible. Unless.. Maybe it isn't a walker? But, sadly, that's when Andrea shoots. The walker is hit, and goes down.
"NO!" Rick yells.
Andrea looks incredibly pleased with herself for about 2 seconds before she hears the yells of disapproval. Just then, everyone else comes running out of the house.
"What on Earth's going on here?" Hershel asks.
Rick and Shane pick up the walker and start dragging it towards the house. That's when I notice it's wearing the same clothes as Daryl had on earlier, and I begin to panic. Was Daryl a walker? Did he get bit?
Andrea and Cameron run towards the Daryl-walker, and T-Dog picks up what appears to be a doll off the ground. I think it was Sophia's.
