I was sat in front of the fire reading through one of my old journals I found, dating back to my human days. The leather bound book had aged quite well, my parents never touched my room after my 'death', the brown leather had faded in areas and flaked away in others. There was a rip on the back cover and the pages were slightly yellowed, other than that it was nearly new. I flipped the page showing a drawing I did of Kathrine, her dark hair In ringlets framing her face. Big doe eyes staring back, her skin smooth and blemish free. I always wondered how such an evil woman could be so beautiful. A knock at the door distracted me from the journal closing it I walked to the door, listening to the heartbeat on the other side. I opened it revelling Elena Gilbert, she looked so similar to Kathrine but yet so different.
"Hi, is Stefan here?" She asked looking away from me. I listened for movement upstairs, hearing footsteps from his room. Smiling I let her in and shouted for him. We sat for an minute in awkward silence before she broke it.
"What's that?" She pointed at the journal in my hands. I debated telling her the truth, already knowing she new about vampires and my brothers pasts. Me and Elena had never really gotten much chance to speak alone maybe this was our chance.
"My journal. From when I was human, my last one to be exact." I said to her flicking back to the page with the Kathrine drawing.
"Is that her?Kathrine I mean." I nodded passing the book over to her. She looked shocked looking at the drawing before her.
"You look exactly like her, it's unbelievable really." She looked up at me still in shock.
"Can I?" She gestured to the passage on the next page.
"Yeah, go for it." I already knew what it said. Hell I could remember writing it. As she read the passage to herself I got up and poured myself a drink, I'd probably need it where this conversation was going to go. A minute or so after I sat back down she looked at me closing the book in her hands.
"You saw?" Nodding at her question.
"I did, she was knelt behind him on the bed.... Hers eyes were black like the sky that night, veins protruded from under them. I remember watching her sink her fangs into his neck, he didn't even flinch." I recalled the night I found out about vampires.
"I panicked and ran not long after that, straight to Damon but he wasn't much help. Just told me I was having a nightmare and walked me back to bed."
Elena sat quietly across from me as I recited the night my life was ripped apart.
"I didn't know it then but Damon knew, after he left me he went to confront her about it."
"Was you scared?" She asked, finally speaking.
"Yeah, I was. I was terrified Stefan was one of them too. Or that she was killing them both while I lay in the dark."staring into the fire I finished the last of the bourbon in my cup.
"And now look where we are"
