I took a deep breath

When I answered the door I saw you

Playing with your sleeves on the door mat

I let you in and closed the door behind you

You avoided eye contact, neither of us said a word

I offered you a drink, you politely declined

You still wore a scarf, maybe you were self conscious about your scar

We sat down on the sofa, the yellow blanket draped over the back

We sat in silence for a few minutes, both feeling awkward around each other's presence after not seeing one another for so long

Until you spoke

'So umm...'
