I was finally ready. It was already 9:01 and I was starting to get nervous. I had only been on a date a few times, but they were awkward, and weird. This wouldn’t be anything like those though. This was Alex, and I’ve known him for years. I shouldn’t be worried.
Finally I heard someone knock on the door. I jumped up and mentally screamed, then repeat calming chants in my head. Alex O’Conner was here and I was about to go on a date with him. There was a second knock. I finally decided I should open the door.
“Hi,” I blushed.
He was wearing his usual khaki pants with a plain black button down shirt, which was tucked into his pants.
“You look amazing Talia,” he said his jaw dropping slightly. This was definitely not going to be like my other dates.
“Thanks,” I replied, “You look ravishing as well.”
“Thank you,” he laughed.
The tension between us was starting to fade, as we slowly began to get comfortable with one another.
“Where will we be going this fine afternoon?” I asked, while he took my hand and we began walking down the hall.
“It’s a surprise,” he said.
“I hope it’s not a fancy restaurant, which I’m completely not dressed for.” I pointed out.
“Oh, wow, well there goes my surprise.” He said, “Well, you look gorgeous so they will have to deal with it.”
“No, I’ll just go change.” I panicked.
He was taking me to a fancy restaurant and I was wearing jeans! I couldn’t go in there without a fancy dress on. Fancy resteraunts were usually filled with arrogant snobs who dressed like every day was a wedding, therefore I had always felt out of place in them.
“No, seriously please don’t.” he said.
“But, I have to it’ll be rude.”
I hadn’t realized that we were already down the stairs and headed for his car at this point.
“It won’t be, trust me.”
After about a five minute drive off school property we reached a place I didn’t recognize, which definitely did not have a restaurant nearby.
“Okay, now close your eyes.” He said.
I did as he asked. He took my hand, lacing them together, and gently guided me to our destination.
“Open your eyes” he finally said.
In front of me was a beautiful park, I had never been to during my three years at Lake Shore Academy. A grey blanket was placed on the grass with a picnic basket on top. I covered my mouth as I took it all in. This date would be far better than the previous ones, without a doubt.
“Where did you get all of this from?” I asked while I took my seat on the blanket.
“Let’s just say I have my sources.” He replied smirking at his achievment in surprising me.
“Well this is definitely not a fancy restaurant.”
“I know. I had to say yes to you, so you wouldn’t ask me about where we were going the whole drive here.” I laughed.
We sat down. He opened the basket handing me a packaged box of potato salad and a bottle of water. I ate, and I got to learn more about Alex then I knew. He learned about me too. We ended up playing truth or truth, since neither of us was in the mood to run around and do crazy tasks.
Time went by, and the date was over too quickly for my liking. We had to be back on campus by twelve, or they would assume we were missing. While he walked me back to my dorm, in the alley between my building and the one next to it, I saw none other than Blake Carter, and some of his basketball friends, smoking. Another thing to add to the list called, why Blake Carter is a complete ass.
Alex and I continued our walk upstairs silently, but not awkwardly. Once we got to my door, he turned me toward him.
“I had an amazing time with you Talia.” He whispered not to wake anyone else in the hallway up.
“So did I Alex.”
“Will we be able to go on our second date anytime soon?”
“Definitely!”
“What do you think about Friday night?”
“Perfect.”
He smiled. I couldn’t help notice that he glanced down at my lips, and slightly moved in. Was he about to kiss me?
Oh my god Blake Carter is about to kiss me! Did I just say Blake Carter? I mean, did I just think Blake Carter? Great now that guy has me thinking about him, while I’m about to kiss Alex O’Conner! Whoa he’s really close, and I’m not pushing him away! What if I hit his nose? What if I ruin it?
He finally kissed me. The butterflies in my stomach blew up because a bomb probably just went off in there, from the emotions and thoughts going through my head. My heart started to beat faster and I began to wonder if I was having a heart attack.
“Was that too early?” he asked once he realized I didn’t actually kiss him back.
“No,” I blushed, “I just have no idea how to kiss someone.”
I can't believe I admited that. I thought to myself. One should never admit they have never been kissed, not on a first date at least. It was like saying 'Hello dear man, I am not experienced and you are probably wasting your time with me as I will probably go no where you want to go.'
“No way a girl as pretty as you has never been kissed!” he joked.
I could feel my face heat up from the embarrassment. Maybe he would take it better than I thought.
“Aw, hey don’t be embarrassed. It’s fine, I’ll teach you how to kiss, on our next date.” He winked.
I nodded since I couldn’t say anything.
“Okay, I guess I will see you Friday, miss Talia Brooks?”
“I guess you will.” I finally spit out something.
He nodded and with a quick goodbye he kissed my cheek and began to walk back. I felt bad for the whole situation so before my mind could process what I was about to I grabbed his arm, spun him around and gave him a quick kiss on the lips.
“You’re already a pro.” He winked, as he slowly backed out of the kiss.
