I didn't expect anything wild to happen on my break. My parents decided to send me off to Sydney for the six week break before grade twelve next year, it was their seventeenth birthday present to me along with a new camera. Apparently my uncle and aunty wanted to see me and to discuss future plans and go apartment hunting to prepare for the following years of university.
Three days after my birthday, we were all sitting on the airport seats, my younger sister and younger brother both sat still engaged in the games on their phones. It was a good opportunity to take a picture of them actually ‘getting along’, it wasn’t a peculiar sight in this century, they were like every other teenager, just another fifteen year old girl with her thirteen year old brother playing on their phones.
“Be careful there, make sure to call us as often as soon as you get there and as often as you can,” Mum says handing me my flight ticket, a map of Sydney, a list of phone numbers and an envelope with extra cash as I simply nodded ‘thanks’, “We’re going to miss you so much,” She and dad claimed.
“I’m going to miss you guys as well,” I say hugging the two of them as the gateway to the plane I’m suppose to be on opened.
I knew this was a facade, they thought I wouldn't hear their arguments at three am on some nights. I knew they were pretending to get along for our sake, so we don't have to worry, I know they're unhappy together. They don't know that we've known dad was sleeping on the couch for some nights now, they don't know that Fliss and Max are beginning to suspect. I know I'm going to sound like a selfish and spoilt brat by saying this, but they're suppose to be the couple that was going to last forever, like a fairytale. Or maybe I've been living my life as if it were a fairytale story.
“Go find your seat honey, we love you,” Mum says withdrawing me from my train of thought and I replied with an ‘I love you’ back before walking towards my siblings who were currently ‘looking after’ my carry on.
“See you in six weeks losers,” I say to my siblings as I walked past them and playfully hit their heads.
“Bye, have fun. And don’t forget to take pictures of any celebrities you see,” Felicity, Fliss, my sister tells me, as my brother Max mutters ‘goodbye’ while being engrossed in his game.
“I doubt there would be any Fliss,” I tell her tuning my phone off while grabbing my carry before putting my phone in the back pocket of my pants.
“No, I heard that 5SOS are in Sydney for six weeks after their tour this year which ended last week. It was rumoured that they were here for the week but no one caught them on camera or anywhere, damn they’re good with disguises. But if you do see them please tell them that I think they are like the cutest band ever!”
“I doubt I will see them, but if I do, I will tell them that for you,”
‘With pictures please, oh and with Luke’s girlfriend too,”
“Can’t you just google them?” I ask her while walking towards the line of people with her.
“Yeah, but it’s not the same, these pictures would exclusively be mine only, they won’t be plastered on google images,” she says making puppy eyes.
“Fine,” I say moving forward towards the rapidly clearing line.
“Ticket please, Miss?” the air hostess asked as I fumbled with the pieces of paper.
“Could you hurry up? Other people have places to be.” A deep voice rudely spoke behind me. The guy looked as if we were around the same age, he was wearing dark sunglasses, a beanie and a black jacket with the collars up, hiding his red plaid shirt in the hot and humid temperature.
