My Place (Original)

Looking out upon the sea,
I feel the whole world stare back at me.
The shimmering sun lowering below the horizon,
Painting the sky a faded pink.
"Don't forget about me," plead its last rays of light.
As if I ever might.

Glowing stars return;
They fill the empty void above
While down below, the moon puts on a show,
Dancing on the water's ripples,
Accompanied by the soft, Spring breeze
And me.

Just me
That's all there'll ever be
For all of eternity
In this painted fantasy
An escape from a painful reality

This place is all mine
Just me, myself, and I
This place is all mine

And I don't have to worry
About the chains of responsibility
Or the shadows of regret.
Here, I am free;
I am who I want to be.

Waterfalls of relief wash over me,
And the silence is as relaxing
As a day at the beach,
A nice reprieve from all that plagues my mind.
The wind tugs gently at my hair,
Caressing each strand,
Bringing a melody to my ears,
A smile to my face.
The sweet smell of rain taints the air;
I welcome its tender embrace.

But then it all stops,
Stands still.
Cold fingers twist around my ankle,
Send shivers through my body.
My breath ceases,
Eyes grow wide;
My sense of security drains from my face.
I am being dragged
Down

"I don't want to drown."
