THE MOTHER OF the child held her new-born closely to her heart. The midwives that had helped with the delivery of the child all stood around the bed, smiling at the woman with tears rimming their eyes. It was a birth that had taken what felt like forever, filled with immense pain, tears, and pleas for mercy. Ultimately, after all the hardship of childbirth, the baby was finally crying in the world of reality. Something that was once a dream was now a life in which could be held in the hands of humans.
"She is beautiful," one of the midwives said, hastily wiping away her tears with the sleeves of her dress.
Unable to withhold herself, she sobbed out silently, coughing back her tears when she realized that the others had turn to glance at her. Embarrassed by her blatant emotions, she blushed a bright scarlet before clearing her throat and mumbling an apology under her breath.
"A true picture of an angel," the other agreed immediately. This woman was unafraid of the judgemental looks, perfectly happy with displaying her congratulatory smiles to the new mother. "You are very fortunate, madam."
"And best of all," a new voice chimed in just as the door opened. The woman finally looked up from the baby who was now soundly asleep, finally ceasing in her cries. When she was greeted by the sight of her beloved husband, the man in which she could safely call her home, she allowed herself to smile with the grace of all the angels. "She looks just like you," he commented.
Swiftly, he crossed the room towards his wife, pressing a kiss to the top of her head and lingering for a few extra seconds lovingly. The woman shut her eyes, relinquishing in the feeling of warmth and comfort as the midwives quickly excused themselves and left the family alone. Now complete, the woman sighed in great content, smoothening down the baby's small tuft of hair with a tired hand before reaching out to her husband.
"I know without a shadow of a doubt that she will grow to be as brave as you are, my love." Blue eyes sparkling with a hint of tears, the woman chuckled at her husband, bringing her baby higher up her chest and closer into her embrace so that the father of the child would be able to see the new-born clearly.
Even though the child was not more than even an hour old, she was already a sight to behold. Still a little red and wrinkly, she squealed in her mother's arms, curling into a tight ball and squeezing her eyes shut. The proud parents did not even need to see the baby's eyes to know that she would possess the brightest and most brilliant blue-green that the skies could ever behold. That was due to the fact that both the mother and father owned such magnificent colors for their irises.
They could already see how their precious child would look like when blessed with years. She was to have long blonde hair that reflected the light of the sun, spun by the hands of angels in the heavens. Her eyes would match the blue of the oceans undiscovered, or rival the azure of the skies during the most dazzling of summer days. Maybe her skin would be sun-kissed due to the hours spent frolicking in the meadows under the gold of the sun, maybe it would be pale like a porcelain doll primed to be the lady in which her mother had been.
However way she would physically appear to be when the years start to catch up with her, there was no doubt that she would be nothing short of grand majesty.
"You flatter me, darling." The husband lightly combed back his wife's sunshine colored hair, tucking the strands behind her ear while his smile never once faded. "She will know all the luxuries in which life has to offer. Our beautiful daughter will never have to labor in the fields or touch a single needle in her entire life. She is a work of the angels and she will be as such. We have been blessed, my love. We have a goddess as our child."
"Yes," the woman agreed, lightly rocking her daughter in her arms. "We have."
"What would you wish to name her?" The husband inquired, placing a gentle hand on his wife's shoulder. It brought on a warmth that could not be compared, a wave of love that made the woman's heart swell with pride.
She was silent, deep in thought with her bottom lip between her teeth. When she finally thought of a name, her head lightened, lips curving into a graceful grin before she cast her husband an excited look.
"Though she will never have to sew or to plow, though she will be blessed with riches beyond any other man's wildest dreams, I want my child to know that these luxuries that she has originated from the hard work of her parents and the love they provide. Do you not agree?"
"Of course, darling. May she remain humble and remember the origins of all the gold and riches she could possess."
"Then we are in agreement."
The man smiled. It was something in which he had been continuously doing ever since he heard news of his wife's successful labor. It seemed as though smiling had never been easier. He had all he wanted in the world right there in the room with him, much more than all the world's worth of gold and silk.
"I think we shall call her..." the woman trailed off, her gaze never separating from her beloved husband's as they both spoke the name of their daughter.
"Ida."
