I looked at the doorway. In it was standing a young man, with slicked back black hair. Well, his face was young, but his brown eyes looked so old but at the same time, bright and quick.
At his words, Kace and Jace backed away from me and stood motionless side by side, with their eyes on the ground. Jace was the first to speak: 'Father, we weren't hurting her. We did exactly as told.'
I mentally rolled my eyes. Apart from the fact, Kace was about to stab me! Kace broke his silence. 'We've done as you asked, Father. May we leave?' The man in the doorway, apparently their father, shook his grey-haired head. 'No. I want you two for something else as well.' He motioned towards me. 'She must be trained, and this fantasy world of hers' that she's grown up in must be destroyed.'
I tried to interrupt, but my tongue seemed to be glued to the roof of my mouth.
'Prepare the guard. She must be transported, but when she arrives...' The man sent Kace a smug, dirty look, 'she is to be treated the same as everyone else, she will become one of them. Presently she IS nothing.' I could see that Kace was struggling to keep a blank face, but even then I could see the simmering frustration. It made me think of a kettle about to boil.
Their father continued. 'I will be appointing Doerin (Doe-rin) to train her. She must catch up, and everything will be as it should have been if it hadn't been... Interrupted.' Here he glared at Jace, who stared steadily back at him.
Sending the rising tension, I made to speak, but no words came out. It was like talking when u had headphones on: everything was a white sound, bland and pale. It was all falling apart, the walls were warping slowly, then gaining speed, turning faster and faster.
No one caught me as I fell to the floor.
