A279 orphaned by insurrectionists when he was 9 years old, picked out from the rest to join the spartan III program. He never had a team, never really belonged anywhere. Sure he had grown closer to some Spartans but he never had a team. He told himself it was because he worked better alone, which wasn't a lie. Although he'll never forget the day he actually worked with another Spartan. B312, they were both highly trained black ops assassins. It seemed like fate when they were put together. As they completed more missions together they grew closer, friends A279 thought. Of course that didn't last long, they continued on their seperate ways. Last A279 had heard B312...no, Will. Last he'd heard Will was doing pretty damn well. Will had been re assigned to Reach though. God knew how well that would go... Reach was lost. Along with good men, but that's war. Speaking of war A279 is right in the middle of one, right now.

A279 POV

"Sir multiple unknown hostiles detected"

"Flanking position, we're surrounded"

"What do we do?"

"Where the hell'd they come fro-"

I growled shutting the soldiers up.
"You" I called up on of the marines, he looked nervous.

"Uh, m-me?" He stuttered.

I grinned. This was the best the UNSC had? Clearly not but I guess it'd have to do. "No the rock you're hiding behind... yes you"

"Sir!" The man, scrambled his way over to me slightly flustered.

I glanced at his name, Joanas, how cute. At least his fellow squad mates were too busy pissing themselves to notice. I had to give 'em one thing those kids had tenacity. That might not be enough in a minute though...
I had a plan but it was... risky. What fun.

"We're about to be surrounded but the mission is far too important to abandon. I'm going in, alone, I'll try to draw as many of these things away but you and your squad need to cover me" I ordered.

"Sir I'm not in charge of the squad-" Joanas began.

"Johnson is dead" I said.

Oh great, I broke him, I thought as the kid I was talking to somehow looked even more nervous, now on the verge of tears. I kinda feel bad for him, maybe if I try comforting him things will move a little faster. Whatever possessed the UNSC to send them on this mission I really don't know. It's suicide for anyone but a Spartan. In the end I guess the UNSC sees these guys as collateral damage. It's unfortunate, I'll try getting them out alive.

"He'll be remembered, but only if there's someone to remember him" I say. "I'll get you out of here, I swear." Half truths and empty promises I know but we need to get moving.

"Yes sir!" Joanas stood tall. What a shame, I grimaced, he probably won't make it. This is war, I tell myself. Not everyone makes it.

"Good. You see that ledge?" I pointed at potential cover not to far away. Once Joanas nodded I continued "It's pretty high up, you get your men up there and cover me. Just remember, if I take a bullet, it just might find it's way back to you" I threatened. I smile as the kid hurries to get up on the ledge.

Time skip cause I'm lazy

Guns and grenades. Battle cries. Screams, it all fades away into the background as I move further into the forerunners structure. I was here to retrieve something very precious to the UNSC, in fact to ONI as well. An A.I that had extracted extremely sensitive data out of the forerunner structure. The soldiers guarding it went missing however, It's why they sent in a Spartan.
