“Luke?”

“Luke sweetheart?”

“Luke?”

Fluttering my eyes open I looked up to find my Mom and Carl leaning over me while Calum watched on from his bed, trying to make the smirk splitting his face look sympathetic.

“Luke!” Mom cried, pulling me up and smothering me in a hug.

“What happened?” I groaned, my head pounding.

“Calum said you tripped over and got a bloody nose,” Mom replied, “Then I hit you with the door on the way in.”

“I didn’t trip!” I argued.

“Poor boy’s delusional,” Calum sighed.

“I’m not delusional you ass face you hit me!” I cried sitting up and wiping my nose on my sleeve.

“What?” Calum laughed, “Why on earth would I hate you, I barely know you.”

“You lying little imp!” I grumbled, “You hit me and I know it!”

Is that true Cal?” Carl asked.

“Of course not!” Calum cried, “Why would I hurt by baby brother.”

“I’m not your baby anything!”

“I’m sorry,” Calum said innocently holding his arms up in surrender.

“Luke what is your problem?” Mom demanded.

“He’s lying!” I cried, pointing to Calum, “He hates me!”

“Why would I hate you?” Calum asked, “I  just want for us to be friends.”

“See Luke,” Mom said gently, “I think you may have hit your head pretty hard.”

“He’s lying!” I cried, staggering to my feet, “He wants to get rid of us!”

“Mrs. Hemmings…. I mean Hood, I would never, ever, ever want to get rid of you.”

“I know that honey,” Mom sighed, “And don’t call me Mrs. Hood that’s weird.”

“What should I call you then?” Calum questioned innocently.

“Whatever you like,” Mom replied.

“Okay,” Calum said sweetly, “Mom.”

“You ass hole!” I grumbled.

“Luke!” Mom shouted, swatting me on the back of my pounding head.

“It’s fine Mom,” Calum said politely, “He’s just not used to sharing.”

“Well he better get used to it,” Mom replied, “I don’t want to hear another word Luke.”

“But….”

“But nothing. It’s late, you need to go to sleep.”

“I can’t go to sleep!” I spat, “I’m probably concussed.”

“You’re not concussed,” Mom sighed.

“How do you know?” I argued, “I could die in my sleep and no one would even know.”

“I’ll make sure that doesn’t happen,” Calum said, “I’m a very light sleeper.”

“Thank you Calum,” Mom sighed, “Luke, go to bed.”

Then crossing over to Calum she kissed him on the cheek before doing the same to me.

“Goodnight boys,” Carl called out, on his way out the door.
