A couple of months later, a knock is heard at the door and Jongdae sighs, getting up from his seat on the couch to open it. Baekhyun, Jongin, Yixing and Junmyeon stand drenched at the door, small smiles on their faces as they drag in their luggage. After doing so, each of them pick one of the boys to hug, speaking their greetings. They all sit down at the dining table afterwards, catching up with one another.
"We decided . . . As a group that we needed to come help you guys. We just- just couldn't leave things the way they were, y'know? How are things?" Yixing asks, a guilty look displayed on his face. Chanyeol chews his lower lip a little before answering.
"What do you want us to tell you? And why do you decide, almost three months later, to come running back to us?" He asks, an angry tone laying beneath his voice. Sehun warns him with a hand to the shoulder, shaking his head.
"Look, we're sorry. We're sorry, ok? We had to leave. Weird things were happening here. We didn't know how to cope with that." Baekhyun offers, trying to justify the situation.
"We forgive you." Sehun speaks quickly. "But things- things still aren't great. We don't know how to fix this. What should we do?" He swipes a hand over his face in desperation and frustration and it is now the other group of boys see how much their friends have suffered staying here. Their faces are pale, large grey-purple eye bags are present and most of the boys have barely said a word - minus Chanyeol and Sehun.
"You guys . . ." Junmyeon sighs in guilt and pity. "What has been going on here?" The boys are silent, until Jongdae speaks up.
"It's . . . It's tearing us apart, Jun. The feeling of something watching you every moment, seeing something walk past the door in the hallway, hearing voices that shouldn't be heard. It's gotten worse." By the end of his spiel, Jongdae's almost in tears, chin trembling and eyebrows furrowed.
"You guys, you need to leave. Things are getting bad, and we can no longer control them. We can't move out, we don't have enough money. And undoubtedly, you spent your stash on renting apartments and coming back here. Can't you see? We're trapped, like prey in our own home. Who knows if we leave then these 'things' won't follow us?" Minseok spits, eyes glassy due to exhaustion and anger. The boys settle down for the night, not hearing anything.Another couple of weeks go by, and Baekhyun, Jongin, Yixing and Junmyeon are beginning to wonder if things were bad at all. There has been no activity whatsoever and they are confused by the others' quick, shifty glances. It is obvious to see that they are always on edge, getting frights from the silliest of things. However, after a month and a half of moving back, they begin to see what the boys are talking about.
It is currently 7:16pm and the boys haven't long had their dinner. They are watching the television in the living room when all of a sudden they hear a strange tapping sound. Most of the boys ignore it, but those who aren't used to it feel the hair on the backs of their necks and arms stand erect, goosebumps breaking out across their skin and their ears prick in concentration. Their hearts thump at an almost in humane speed and their chests heave quickly for oxygen. The knocks cease for a fe moments, before a loud and solid thud hits the wall. All of them jump in fright, pupils dilating and hands trembling. The floor lamp in the corner of the living room where the noises were coming from begins to flicker, strobing for a few moments before going out completely. The boys huddle closer together on the opposite side of the living room.
"Shit! Not again." Kyungsoo curses beneath his breath, hands fumbling through a drawer in their coffee table for a flashlight. His hands grasp the cold metal, quickly turning it on. Two other lamps remain on, but after having experienced this now three times, he knows that within a few minutes, the entire room will be engulfed by darkness with the door locked. That way, they are trapped in a blanket of opaque black with no way out and other beings in the room with them. Baekhyun clings to the smaller's side, everyone huddling round the flashlight. Everybody screws their eyes tightly shut, not wanting to see anything that may pop up. The taste of copper circulates in Jongin's mouth and he knows that he has bitten his lip too hard, but he can't help it. It's a nervous habit of his. He can say that this experience is definitely the most nerve wracking one of his young life so far. The butterflies that were initially in his stomach have transformed into bears, trying to claw their way out. The second lamp goes out, but this time the energy's increased, so that the lightbulb smashes. The only lamp still functional is the one next to them as well as their torch. The darkness closes around them, the group of nine boys huddling closer together when an object in the far side if the room smashes onto the floor, seeming thrown with full force. Nobody is willing to speak, breath having been taken away when the first light went out.The last lightbulb explodes, and smoke can be seen coming from the blackened glass. Ragged breaths are heard and the sounds of a person walking across the wooden floor can be heard, the base of gum boots thudding loudly. The footsteps get closer and closer, so that the boys (who are now all on the couch somehow) can feel the vibrations. When the footsteps stop in front of them, eyes are screwed shut so tightly that white stars can be seen, and hands clench onto the material of the person next to them. A low grunt from the person standing in front of them is the last sound before the torch is snatched from Kyungsoo's hands and thrown against the wall, the glass can be heard cracking and the two batteries hit the floor loudly before rolling. The person leans over the boys huddled on the couch and his harsh breath can be felt.
