"Look, I don't care how.. But I want that goddamn luggage in front of my apartment door by 8 pm or your airline is fucked.." I hiss into the phone and hang up on the numb-skulled airline manager.
"Great! First morning here and I'm already a mess" I sigh "Why am I talking to myself?" I whisper and shake my head.
I need Gen.
Fortunately, Genevieve said she would be arriving tomorrow which is reliving but terrifying because I'm going to be alone from the second semester onwards considering Gen will be moving into an apartment with her boyfriend.
Wouldn't hurt to find yourself a roommate anna..
I drop my rucksack by the couch and look around my partially furnished apartment.
Just a couch, two bedrooms with great looking beds and a kitchen. "i need to go buy a few stuff.." I say to myself out loud, then proceed to question my life's decisions.
"Gee Anna, why don't you just make up an imaginary friend at this point" i mutter, fishing for my keys in the depths of my bag. I slip my sneakers back on and walk out the front door.
I exit my apartment and make my way down a few short flights of stairs then exit into the parking lot.
If it wasn't for my kind, generous Father, I'd be walking the streets like a lost tourist. Now, although I like a good adventure, this isn't the appropriate time to be venturing around the city at 9 am on a Sunday.
I get into my car and proceed to pull out of my parking spot and onto the road. I press the audio button on my navigator "find me the closest IKEA". It quickly displays a short rout to an IKEA about 15 minutes away from where I'm currently at.
I follow the directions and for once.. I actually turn up in the right place. "Thank the heavens" I pull into a parking spot and get out, making my way in I grab a trolley by the entrance and spend about 10 minutes around the pillows and lamps isle, when I've picked out neutral pillow colours with matching sheets for both the bedrooms I walk over to the lamps and settle on a cute spiral 4 foot one that's touch operated.
The next few hours go by shopping for a few fake plants, a few side tables and a few tins of paint. After a purchase that dented my wallet a little, I grab the many paper bags and walk out to my car. I safely place the bags in the boot of the car and take all the glass objects and place them on the front seat after shutting the boot.
I take my shopping very seriously.
Its around 1:30 when I pull up at a signal. I briefly look at my notifications until the red light drops.
When I get home, I drag all the bags and boxes into the livingroom and sit on the floor amongst them. I start unpacking my cutlery and placing them in shelves, then move on the decorating the bedroom.
By the time I've done my room, its around 6. I groan and fall on the bed and stare up at the ceiling.. I'm so tired..I rest my eyes for what i assume is 5 minutes but is actually 30.
I'm woken up by the bell being rung repeatedly, I drag myself off the bed and walk to the door, rubbing my eyes in the process and stub my toe on the edge of the coffee table "mother trucker!" I groan, wobbling to the door, i swing it open.
In front of me stands a man slightly shorter than me with a nervous smile on his face "ma'am.. Your bags" I then notice the few boxes of clothes and two luggages beside him. "Oh.. Thank you.." I grab the things and pull them in, then tip the guy for not being a complete asshole before i kindly smile and shut the door.
"Great.." I look at the 3 big boxes containing my clothes, books and who knows what, And then the luggages containing more clothes. Welcome to being an adult.. Said no one.
I grab my phone off my empty TV stand and look at the amount of missed calls I have. Genevieve? This girl has no patience.
I call her back and wait for her to answer, 2 rings in and she screams a very long hey into my ear. "Hey..? Why so hyper? Oh god... What have you done?" I switch her to speaker and walk into the kitchen, She laughs nervously "you see Anna.. I may have fallen down a flight of stairs when I was at this club after I dropped you off at your place last night.. And I fractured my leg in 2 places. So, i won't be able to fly tomorrow and I don't think I'll be joining you until next semester.." I let out a cavewoman-like groan "Gen, you're as uncoordinated as a dog with 3 legs" i hiss.
"I know, I know. I promise I'll be there in 3 months.. You'll see me, you facetime me if you miss me. Now, my doctor says I need rest, I really need to go but i'll talk to you later, bye!" She says quickly and hangs up.
I sigh and place the phone on the kitchen counter.
I glance at the clock and realise its time for dinner. I need to cook myself something..
Or I could order take out since i forgot to pick up groceries. Priorities, Anna.
I look for a few restaurants in the area and order myself enough food to last for lunch tomorrow. After dinner I change into something more comfortable and slide under the covers.
I'm dozing off when my phone chimes, I turn to my it and check who it's from. Genevieve's name is displayed with a long text following it.
GENEVIEVE
Hey love! I forgot to mention earlier, but I have someone who would like to stay with you for as long as you can tolerate them :) don't worry, you know the person.. I gave him your number, talk to him! sleep tight <3What.
She knows how i feel about strange men, in particular, possessing my number.
I swear if you're going to make me live with some ex convect or a rapist i'm going to beat you with a metal rod.
I hit send on the threatening text, but on the inside my anxiety rises. My heart beats rapidly, waiting for a response.
GENEVIEVE
Geez.. Brutal much?I laugh at her text and send her a sleeping emoji.
Well, this should be exciting.
Just kidding, i'm a nervous wreck.
