Ch 5: The Reaction

"ROWAN!" Cameron shouts. Corbyn steps back only a little, so our lips weren't touching anymore.

"I guess I'll see you later, Corbyn." I said.

Corbyn says a quick goodbye and walks out the door.

"What's your problem!" I raised my voice.

"What about you? You've gone completely off the rails!" He yells.

"Why? Because I told you I was going to be home late? Because I have my first boyfriend? Well, I hate to break it to you, but you were way worse last year." I retort.

"Exactly, I learned from my mistakes, and I don't want you to end up like I did." He shouts at me.

"I'm not doing anything wrong! I'm literally being a typical teenager. you can't control me."I say turning around to go up to my room.

On my way up I hear Nash say, "she's right you know." That made me smile. I knew he was my friend, but I assumed he would take Cam's side.

When I got back to my room, I knew I had to relax, so I crawled out of my window and sat on the roof. I was humming a song that was stuck in my head. My eyes were closed taking in the warm breeze.

Nash's POV

After Rowan stormed upstairs Cameron let out a frustrated sigh and took a seat on the couch.

"I don't understand why you're so upset with her." I say.

"Honestly, I don't either. It's just she used to never go out, avoided boys and now she has one of her own. She goes out for hours not wanting to come home. It's just so different." He admitted.

I nod, "I get that things have changed, but don't you think that it's for the best. I mean, she's not miserable anymore.."

Cameron let out a breath. "I guess you're right. I just- we haven't been as close lately and I miss her."

"You have to talk to her, dude. She doesn't understand why you're acting this way." I say.

"You're right.... again." He sighed.

"I should get going, Hayes isn't going to take this news very well."

Cameron looked back up at me. "I forgot all about him. How do you think he's going to react?" Cam asks.

"I honestly don't know, man. I mean, he we super jealous of the picture of Rowan and Ian." I say.

"Well, let me know how that goes and I'll do the same with Rowan."

I nodded and headed for the door. I walked across the street to my house and opened the door.

"You won't believe this!" Was the first thing that I heard walking through the door.

"What Hayes?" I say with a sigh, knowing it was going to be about Rowan.

"Rowan totally blew me off. I asked her out at the beach yesterday and she said yea, cuz obviously it's me. But she texting saying that it's not going to work out! She didn't even give me a chance!" He basically shouted.

"Look," I start trying to make him understand. "Maybe there's something going on. You don't know everything."

"Ya, but she seemed so excited. Wait." He looks at me suspiciously. "You know something. What is it?"

"The reason Rowan canceled your date is because.... she's dating Corbyn." Hayes went silent.

"Oh"

Neither if us say anything for a while.

"Wait," he starts. "How do you know?"

"I uhh... kind of walked in on them... uhhmm..." I stutter.

"Walk in on them what?!" Hayes shouts.

"Making out.." I prepare for a big reaction.

Hayes takes a step back. Moving his eyes across room l, doing whatever he can to avoid eye contact. Without a word he walks up to his room, closing the door.

Hayes POV

I can't believe this. I was so close. She picked that blonde haired boho over me. I've been with her for her entire life. And she's known this kid for what? Not even a year.

I pull out my phone. I have to text her. Tell her I know, because she's obviously not planning on telling me.

"I know about you and Corbyn. You don't have to avoid me."

I doubt she's going to reply. She doesn't do the best is awkward situations.

I flop down on my bed and let out a breath. What have I done to myself?

Rowan' s POV

Cameron can't control me. If I want a boyfriend i can have one. I reach over to my phone and text Corbyn to meet me at the park. I then crawl to the edge of the roof and drop down.
