We heard a scream from upstairs, and Jacob and I raced upstairs to find the source. We heard commotion coming from Jacob and Valletta's bathroom, and I burst in.
There were Chris and Valletta, Valletta in the tub. When Valletta saw the open door, she jumped up and tried to run out, but I snatched her. Chris sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "No more painting for her." He growled.
I laughed and put Valletta back in the bathtub. "Have you been making your daddy crazy?" I teased Valletta. She giggled as she.nodded, then exclaimed, "Yeah!!!" I turned to Chris for an explanation.
"She wanted to paint and got it all over her, so I had to chase her around the house, and stuff got knocked over, and I've been TRYING to give her a bath." He told me, looking exhausted.
I got Valletta's hair wet as I said, "You did good babe. Jacob, can you and your daddy please go help pick up the house some?" The boys left to fix the mess, and I gave Valletta a bath. "You know, silly..." I told her, "You gotta ease up on your daddy."
She shook her head, sending water went flying in all directions, as she rejected the idea. "And why not?" I asked disapprovingly. "It's funny to play with Daddy!" She squealed.
I dried her off with a towel as I told her that it wasn't nice to do things like that, and she understood. "Will you apologize to Daddy?" I asked her. She said she would.
I carried her into her room, still wrapped in the towel, and set her on the bed. I pawed through her closet and grabbed out an Asking Alexandria shirt we had modified to fit, then grabbed out a black skirt for her.
I got her dressed, even though she fought it. I then carried her downstairs to see Jacob and Chris collapse together on the couch. The house was clean. I whistled. "Good job, boys!" I admired.
Chris looked ready to pass out. "Kids..." he muttered. I set down Valletta, who ran over and jumped on Chris, hugging him. "I'm sorry Daddy..." She said, snuggling up to him.
He wrapped an arm around her as he told her it was okay. I smiled and looked down at the ring on my finger. I couldn't help but feel giddy for what was going to happen three months from now.
***Flashback***
Chris and I walked through the door, laughing, talking, and smiling. We were coming back from dinner at Ono Hawaiian Barbeque. He had wanted to take me somewhere fancy, but I wouldn't allow it.
He shut the door after us, then pulled me into his arms, kissing me passionately. I melted in his familiar, comforting embrace. "Alice?" He whispered. "Yes?" He got down on one knee, and my jaw dropped.
"Alice Cassnop, I love you more than anything and anyone." "More than Starbucks and chicken wings?" I interrupted. He laughed. "Yes, more than those. I love you above all other things and people.
"You are beautiful, perfect, sweet, and amazing. You are the most caring, considerate, and understanding person I have ever known. I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone other than you. Alice Cassnop, will you make me the happiest and luckiest man alive, and marry me?"
