Chapter 1

Chapter 1
I dusted my hands off after unpacking the last brown box. I looked around the apartment. It was small but cozy. This was my new beginning. I grabbed my laptop and went to go sit out on the balcony I had in the apartment. The summer breeze felt good against my skin. I opened my laptop and started searching for anyone hiring for a registered nurse.
I printed out a few job applications and began to fill them out. As I was doing so, the doorbell rang. I just moved here, I wonder who that could be. I walked back inside, placing my laptop on the couch before walking over to the door. I unlocked it before opening it. A girl about my age or a year older stood there, with a little girl holding her hand that I'm assuming is her daughter.
"Hi! I'm Marissa and this is my daughter, Allie. She's five." She introduced herself. Her little girl just gave me a shy smile before hiding behind her mom's leg. I smiled at them.
"I'm Leah. I just finished moving in today." I introduced myself.
"Welcome to the neighborhood! Everyone's super friendly and nice. If you'd like, I could show you around town sometime." She offered.
I was a little hesitant but took up her offer. "That would be great!" I told her. She pulled a piece of paper out of her purse and wrote something down. "Here's my number. When you aren't busy, give me a text and we'll set a time." She said with a warm smile.
I took the piece of paper. "I'll will. Nice to meet you!"
Over the next couple of hours, I spent the time redecorating the apartment and whatnot. I now live in Nashville. It's very different from the small town in North Carolina but I will get used to it. After settling down in the apartment, I figured it was time to explore. I dialed Marissa's number and placed my phone against my ear.
"Hello?" She picked up.
"Hey, this is Leah."
"Leah, hey! Are you ready to explore Nashville?"
"I sure am."

"That's the Grand Ole Opry. It's the most famous building here. A lot of country artists come and perform." Marissa pointed. "That's where Cole plays!" Allie jumped up and pointed at the building. Marissa smiled down at her daughter.
"Who's Cole?" I asked. Marissa's eyes widen. "Do you listen to country music?" She asked shocked. I laughed. "I don't really listen to music." I answered. "Well, Cole Swindell is a country singer. He's been my best friend since grade school." Marissa explained who he was. I just nodded.
"You should meet him sometime. I'm throwing Allie's sixth birthday party this weekend and he's invited." Marissa said. Just talking about meeting another guy made me feel sick. Ever since the whole Matt situation, I don't really want to date again.
"Mommy, I'm hungry." Allie spoke up.
We ended up having lunch at Arnold's. It was the best food I have ever ate. "So, Leah. Tell me a little about yourself." Marissa said. I smiled. "Well, I'm from a small town in North Carolina so Nashville is a huge chance for me. I'm a registered nurse and looking for anywhere hiring." I explained.
"My sister works at the hospital here. Maybe she can get you a spot there." Marissa said. I smiled. "I would like that." I replied.
After spending some more time in town, we decided to head back home. "Thanks for showing me around. Now I don't feel as lost." I jokingly said. Marissa laughed.
"It was my pleasure. This Saturday is Allie's sixth birthday party. You are more than welcome to come and meet everyone." She said while I unlocked my door.
"Just text me the time and address and I'll come." I told her with a smile. "Great! I will see you then!" I said goodbye to them before walking inside. I closed the door and threw my purse and keys on the counter. First day here and I already made a friend.
Later that night, my mom had called me.
"How are you liking it in Nashville?" She asked. I was laying on my bed looking up at the ceiling. "I love it! Already met a friend. I'm going to her daughter's birthday party Saturday." I answered.
"Sounds like fun."
"Her daughter is adorable. I'm going to go. I had an exhausting day. Love you mama."
"Love you too, sweetie."

Here is chapter 1!! It's a little short but the rest of the chapters will be longer. What do you think so far? There was mention of Cole in this chapter but not a lot. The next chapter will be a little different, you'll see ; ) Let me know down in the comments what you think!
