Prologue
"Have fun celebrating, girl." Alexis told me with a smirk. I just laughed and rolled my eyes. I was taking a few days off as Matt and I's one-year anniversary since we've been going out is coming up. "Trust me, I will. Matt will make sure of that." I joked, making sure I had everything before I left for the day. "I make sure things are running smoothly around here. You get out of here and have fun." Alexis said. I smiled. "Thanks. I see you next week!" I told her before leaving the clinic. I was a RN at the children's clinic. I work on the weekdays and was off on the weekends.
I got in my car and texted Matt saying I was on my way. I buckled up before driving home. As I pulled into the driveway, I noticed my best friend, Lacey's car in the driveway next to Matt's truck. Weird. I hopped out, hesitantly. I dug through my purse, trying to find the keys to the house. Once I found them, I unlocked the door before walking inside.
My heart instantly dropped. A pair of red high heels were laying next to Matt's converses. Those red high heels were not mine. I set my things down quietly before going upstairs. Matt's phone was out laying in the hall. My message was on his phone. I stepped on it, making sure it cracked. Tears filled my eyes as I opened our bedroom door. Matt was cheating on me with my best friend...
"L-Leah." Matt stuttered, covering himself up, laying next to Lacey in bed. She had a look of regret on her face. I just shook my head. "Screw you." I said before rushing downstairs. Tears ran down my face as I grabbed my purse and keys.
"Leah, wait!" Matt ran downstairs, throwing on a shirt. I snapped towards him. "You have nothing to say to me, Matt. We are done! I can't believe after a year, you would do this to me. Especially with my best friend!" I hissed before running out of the house.
I slammed my car door and broke down. Did I do something? I must have since he doesn't love me anymore. I slammed my hands against the steering wheel before backing out of the driveway. I don't know where I'm going but I'm sure as hell not coming back.
