A/N as stated in the description, I only partly wrote this whole thing, I've made a few changes but overall, there's at least half of the credit given to HttpMultiRp, who is really really cool. And now, the story!

Humans could never tell the differences between sirens and mermaids. It was something that nearly every human struggled on. The creatures themselves, the could distinguish every little thing that was different. Wars raged on over territories, so they had decided to put a barrier down; they never crossed it, in fear of war or death from the opposite side.
The one thing forbidden was love between the two.
Keith was a siren, not as proud as he'd like to be but one nonetheless. He swam about with his shark-like tail, hiding in the shadows where his bioluminescence started to glow on his tail. He was getting closer to the border. Who was there? He would usually watch the merpeople play together, laugh, have fun. But now, in the night cycle, there was someone different, someone he'd never seen before; who was he?
Lance looked over at the stranger, confusion filling his face. Normally, only Pidge and him went out there at night, so close to the border.
"Hello?" Lance said audibly
"Who's there?" Pidge asked Lance, frowning.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say... I'd say a siren crossed over the border" Lance looked at Pidge, both curious now.
"Who are you two?" Keith asked, as he got closer and looked confused "I've never seen either of you before" He spoke, tilting his head. His shoulder-length, raven black, hair followed, floating around him. Pidge looked at Keith, immediately putting her guard up and preparing to attack if  Keith made the wrong move.
"The name's Lance, this is my friend Pidge" Lance backed off a few inches "Who are you?"
"I'm Keith. I've never seen a mermaid this close... Your tail is so pretty," He said as he looked at Lance's tail and then to his own "You have pretty scales"
Lance looked away for a second, eyes racing to Pidge, then to his own blue, fish-like tail, then back to Keith.
"Yours is too, and I like your eyes, you seem... Different?" He glanced at Pidge for approval, not wanting to say the wrong thing, but she just looked confused.
"Yeah..." Keith muttered, looking at the other "My eyes are kinda weird, I know" He said softly. Having purple and gray eyes was one thing, but they were really dark and ominous. "Sorry if I interrupted anything you two were doing... I was hoping that maybe I could meet a few people, maybe even make a friend..." He said, then heard a yell from behind him.
"Keith!" Came the yell as Keith flinched. It was Shiro, his brother, but he wouldn't acknowledge him.
"You didn't... Annoy us or anything"
"Definitely not" Pidge agreed
"...Who's that?" Lance asked, looking at the approaching siren.
"Get your tail over here!" Shiro yelled again. Keith looked at him for just a moment before yelling back;
"Leave me alone, I'm no baby! That's Shiro. He's my older... Very protective brother" He answered, hearing Shiro curse behind him.
"Oh, nice" Pidge muttered sarcastically.
"Is he the typical mermaid-hating siren or just protective please-don't-die kinda guy?" Lance took a glance at Keith's brother then quickly looked away, fidgety.
"Little bit of both, but more on the mermaid killing side" He said, as Shiro finally crossed the border. Keith's eyes widened and he yelled "Swim!"
