Who Knew...

Chapter 6

I slowly turn my head to the left and I couldn't believe it.....It was Jasmine.  "OMG!!! I can't believe you are here!!"

 Jasmine was my best freind! We went way back.  She was my only hispanic friend.  She was one of the few foriegn families here in India.  Everyone here was curious about foriegn families.  We were always interested in other cultures and all.  Her parents were born and brought up in Columbia.  They met and got married. For their honeymoon it was their dream to come to India.  When they came here they loved it and decided to stay.  They had two kids, Jasmine and her older brother Alejandro Fernandez.  

"OMG" I squealed as we wrapped each other in a bear hug.  " I haven't seen you since middle school, I thought you were leaving  for Columbia after 8th grade?!"

"Well we did go back, but we all missed India because we were so used to it.  So we decided to come back!"

Confused I asked, " But how come I didn't see you after you came back?"

" We moved to a different area, with mountains and a beautiful lake."

"So.... I won't see you again?" I asked, looking down.

"Unless, I don't get into HUC, dumbo!!!!"

"Oh yeah!", my face lit up.  I didn't have to worry about her not getting in, she was super smart.  Even smarter than me.  Jasmine being here made me feel a lot better and less nervous.  The meeting started.  First there was an opening speech, and everyone sat quiet and listened.  "...HUC is an amazing college for very bright, brilliant students.....we'll announce the names... remember there are 500 of you and only 210 can get in." the speaker said.

So they started calling out the names in alphabetical order.  I was getting bored and knew I had to wait a little because my last name was Kapoor and right now they were on 'E'.   

"Jasmine Fernandez!" they announced.  My eyes shot over to Jasmine and gave her a 'OMG, YOU GOT IN!!' look.

"I knew you would make it!", I said hugging her. 

We started a conversation about how HUC would be like: If we would be roomates,  the classrooms, the dorms...

"Poonam Kapoor!!" I heard my name loud and clear.  I couldn't believe it, I froze, not moving a muscle as the realization dawned upon me.  I didnt realize that Amma and Jasmine were both hugging me from both sides laughing and smiling with their faces all red.  It took me a moment to take it all in.  "I-I...I got in..I got in..I GOT IN!!"

"OMG YESS!!!"  Jasmine and i looked over to each other and our eyes locked with the realization.  Both of us shot up out of our seat at the exact second and pulled each other into a hug as if we were magnetically pulled to each other that we almost fell over and knocked out the chairs.  We stayed there till the end of the meeting.

"Por favor, Mama!!" Jasmine was begging her mom after the meeting to let her stay over with us for a sleepover.

"What are you going to wear, and how are you going to brush your teeth??" , her mom asked.

I piped in, "She can borrow my clothes and we have extra toothbrushes at home.".  I gave her a pleading look.  Her mom thought about it for a moment and said, "Fine" with a smile.  "You did make it into HUC, and I am soooo proud of you!" her mom said pinching her cheeks.

"Moommm!!" Jasmine said trying to pull away.  Her mom pulled her into a hug and Jasmine looked up to her they exchanged 'I love you's'.  We both got in our car because Jasmine was coming over  and Jasmine yelled, "Chao!" to her mom.  I looked over to her car and saw that Alejandro her older brother was in Jasmine's car.  Good looking as ever, I blushed and looked away.

"Tonight's gonna be soo much fun!!" Jasmine exclaimed, in the car.

I smiled, then something dawned on me....at the meeting, Rahul's name was never called.  My smile grew a bit wider.

So Rahul doesn't get in HUC. Hmm. Not what you were expecting, huh? :)  I know this chapter is short, but enjoy! Share, vote, and comment!!
