Midnight Bruises

Chapter Two

~Jaebum's POV~

It was after school and I was in the locker room getting ready for practice.  I was the captain of the swim team and I was one of the head swimmers so I had to make sure to keep up the good work for our team. 

Competition season was coming and I wanted our school to get 1st place.  We haven't won 1st in almost 10 years always getting second and I wanted to change that before I graduated this year.  That was all I ever thought about, my friends bagged on me for only thinking about swimming and called me a merman but I just enjoyed the sport.

Nothing was stressing me out when I was underwater, I wasn't worried about what place I was in or If I was doing good I just swam and I swam as fast as I could.  As I put on my swimming trunks I went out to the pool and sighed.

I saw BamBam talking to Yugyeom on the sidelines and smiled, about fucking time.  I noticed Youngjae off to the side waiting for Yugyeom and he looked pretty adorable.  His yellow rain jacket hugging him as he sat criss cross on the ground looking around like a little kid.

I smiled at him without realizing it before I shook my head and went to the pool to swim.  I had to focus on swimming, swimming and winning were the only things I had time for, I didn't have time for the bruised kid... even if I was starting to want to.

After practice I dried off and changed in the locker room when I heard BamBam talking to someone.

"Yeah I can ask him, i'm sure he'd let you try out!"  BamBam said and I raised my eyebrows.

I am picky about who joins the swim team, and as the Captain i'm allowed to be because the team is my responsibility and I have to lead us to victory this year at the finals.

I turned the corner and raised my eyebrow at BamBam and Yugyeom as they turned to me.  Yugyeom looked shy and instantly looked away and I turned to BamBam.

"He wants to try out for swim?"  I asked and BamBam nervously smiled.

"Yeah...  At least let him try out!  I'm not saying you have to let him in but give him a chance?  I know he missed try outs but the teams really small and if he's good you could use the member.."  BamBam said his voice losing confidence as he talked.

I thought about it for a minute before grunting.

"Yeah I guess... you free right now?"  I asked and Yugyeom turned to me with wide eyes.

"Ah yeah!  Let me change..."  Yugyeom said going into the locker room and changing into some trunks.

I glanced at BamBam and mouthed to him, "You owe me." which he just laughed at and nodded.

After Yugyeom was changed I went to the side of the pool as he got in.  He swam to the edge I was by and looked up at me for instructions.

"Okay, I want you swim to the other side and back as fast as you can, free form."  I said wanting to see his technique and preference when there weren't any real rules.

Yugyeom turned and kicked off from the wall starting his swim.  He had a tight form and strong movements in his shoulders as he glided under the water using his long legs to his advantage.  After he kicked off from the other wall and swam back at the same speed and stopped at the wall looking up at me with hopeful happy eyes.

I could tell he liked swimming, that he was good, and that he would be able to help the team.  I showed no emotion on my face however giving him no idea of what I was thinking.  He continued to look at me the hope in his eyes refusing to die down and that's when I decided.

"You're in, practice is tomorrow at 3."  I said giving him a slight smile before turning and walking off.

Yugyeom jumped out of the pool and ran to me thanking me but I just pushed his wet body away with a chuckle.

"Yeah yeah, don't be late."  I said smiling at the freshman.

He seemed like a good and trustworthy kid, maybe after I graduate he can take my place as the Captain since everyone else was either a Senior or not interested...  That would take away one of my worries if he did.

(Okay I straight up know nOTHING about swimming so bare with me here if I don't follow legit rules, guid lines, forms, techniques etc.  I'm trying at least? Lmaooo)
