I met an eavesdropping Adalise lurking on the other side of the door. She awkwardly leaned away with guilt painted all over her, like a child that just stole cookies from the cupboard.

She opened her mouth, but I quickly stopped her from embarrassing herself further than she already has. "Spare yourself." I waved a lazy hand at her and ran down the stairs towards the person awaiting outside. I heard noisy heels clicking after my fast footsteps.

"Who could that be?" I muttered silently to myself.

"I think I know!" Adalise squealed with joy as she shook my shoulders. I gave her happy face a questionable look.

I opened the door and saw a short sharp girl beneath me. She had brown neck length hair, hanging like waves from her head. A pair of glasses resting on her petit nose completing the look. She always wore slick black pants or a skirt with a matching blazer. It was my good friend, Winter, greeting me and Adalise. She smiled and held up her hands in surprise. Before you ask, yes, she is as smart as she looks.

"Winter, what are you doing here?!" I laughed and warmly embraced her little figure.

"Adalise invited me the last minute." She giggled and pointed at the overly excited Adalise. "It's so nice to see you both. It's been far too long." Winter hang her jacket and was already exploring the hallways. She was distracted. Her squinting eyes was the obvious exposure of her tremendously curious nature. "Who owns this house Annarose?" She was astonished, yet dreadfully skeptical. Her fingertips traced the walls as her eyes roamed every crease and corner.

"Eh, It's Orion." I anxiously scratched my arm. "Orion Davidson."

Winter turned roughly around and raised her eyebrows. She stopped exploring, almost as if she had touched fire. "Orion Davidson? As in the son of Arnold Davidson?"

Why does she know Arnold left a human spawn after him and I did not? I guess Winter knows everything though.

"Yes, that's him!" Adalise screamed and wrapped an arm around Winter's stiff shoulders. Winter's mouth turned sour and a big crease in between her eyebrows formed. Her precious happiness was replaced with shame and distaste.

"...Annarose, I thought you were smarter. This family is-,"

"Come on, Winter! I know what they are!" I joked her seriousness away. Wasn't I the one complaining that I didn't know anything about the Davidson family? If so then why am I denying the knowledge when I have it right in front of me?

"No, I don't think you do. That family has a dark history full of betrayal and old anger. They have fought their way to the top by using the dirtiest people for generations. Annarose, if you are living in Orion Davidson's house then you two must be a... couple?" Winter asked horrified by the mere thought. I guess no one has explained the situation to her.

"No, no, no! It's not like that at all, I can explain-," Winter abruptly cut me off mid-sentence.

"Annarose, are you being held here against your will?" She added with a sudden concern and serious eyes. A pale and sick color had painted itself all over her complexion.

"What? No!" I replied considerably feeling more aggravated.

Adalise laughed. "How could she not want to live here, what the hell Winter?" She frowned and picked on her pink nails, obviously bored with this conversation.

"I'm just making sure that the bloody bastard isn't holding her captive and rapping her eleven times a day!" She defended herself, proudly showing off her concern. Could this get much worse? I palmed my forehead. Here I thought that Adalise and I could have a quiet evening together.
