Alexander's POV
Lafayette and I scouted the area. We were lucky enough to run ahead of the mob. "Do you think they're here?" I asked Lafayette, who flew up to a nearby tree and started looking around.

"Non." He stated. I heard a rustle behind me and quickly looked back to see John and Hercules.

"What the hell are you guys doing here?!" I whisper-shouted at them, afraid that the mob would hear us.

"Look, we want to help. Hercules and I went around school to find our friends, they'll be here when the mob does." John explained, making me scoff.

"Along with the mob?! Are you crazy?! Then we're in deeper shit!"

"They're rebels, just like us. You need to calm down and lend over your trust in our hands." John looked passed me. "They're here, both of you wear something that would hide your faces, this mob is often made up of people from school, they might see you."

I pulled up my hood and Laf turned translucent in my eyes, but to John and Hercules, he's invisible. I took out my dagger and covered the tip, I don't want to kill or make a permanent scar on their skin, that's not who I am. John pulled on a mask, along with Hercules. I heard the taunting screams of the mob and saw the bright luminescence of their torches. "Showtime."

-Time Skip-

It's been weeks since our last encounter with the mob. Lafayette made friends with Jefferson and James is having this little bonding friendship with Herc. That sorta helps us a lot, considering the fact that they know what we are.

John did everything he can to convince Charles to shut his mouth, heck he blackmailed him so badly. I am not telling what it was, it's bettet to just leave it unsaid.

George King got moved back to England, he had things to do back there with his family, so that's good too, he won't be a problem now.

There's also this new kind of feeling. It kinda hurts and feels good at the same time. It only happens around John, I don't know why though, he seems to be the only one who can make me feel that way. He's human, same with Herc and the others, why is he the only one triggering this? More importantly, what is it that I am feeling?

I stopped infront of the stairs, looking up. I always like to think that stairs are like mountains, climb them to your future, you know? Just keep climbing and climbing and when necessary, climb down, there's no shame in admitting that you can't do it on one go, sometimes, you have to go back to step forward.

"ALEXANDER!" Lafayette screamed next to my er, sending me to the ground. Fucking asshole. "Vwere you even listening to me?!"

"Head in the clouds Laf, sorry." I apologized, rubbing my head and standing back up, damn, my ass hurts.

"I vwas asking if Samuel has texted you about Charles?"

"No, he hasn't. Why?"

"Papa is asking how vwe are doing since the 5th battle."

"Ah, well, I'll ask him once I see him."

He seemed satisfied with that answer and walked away. Laf's been very distant lately, he never has these small talks with me anymore, or even go out for a quick fly at night. He seems to be busy and neglecting me. I get it, he's my older brother, he has responsibilities to do. But, can he at least be my brother? And not some kind of general who only checks on me for status reports? That's dad's job, not his.

I went inside our dorm room, where John was sitting cross-legs on the floor with his turtle. "Hi Alex!" He perked up once he saw me.

"Hey John, can I uh, can I rant? I just really need to..." My voice faded, though he still heard it.

"Of course." He took his turtle and patted the spot next to him. I sighed and sat on the floor. "What's on your mind Alex?"

"Lafayette. He's been ignoring me these past few weeks, I don't know if he's doing his responsibilities or just plain neglecting me like a piece of trash. We don't talk about each other anymore, instead we only talk about our mission here. He doesn't accept my invite to hang out after classes, instead he says he has a lot of things to do." I can feel him scooting over next to me. "Sometimes, I wish we never agreed to this. We were the best of friends/brothers! We hung out everyday and he would acknowledge me for who I am. Now, it's different. Just because of this mission."

"I'm sure he's just busy these days, he'll come around soon." I appreciate him trying to make me feel beter, but I just want my brother back. "Tell you what, let's get some slurpees at 7/11, then we'll watch some movies, just to get your mind off things."

I smiled and nodded as a reply. We both walked out the room, gaining a few confused looks from the other kids, what's their problem? "John, why is everyone staring?" I whispered, I'm getting a little uncomfortable here, please stop staring.

"Trust me, I don't know." He whispered back. His phone dinged all of a sudden. I stepped back in fear once his face turned into a menacing look of pure rage.

He quickly grabbed my arm and started pulling me back to the dorm. "J-John?" I stuttered. He didn't say anything and just pulled me along with him, his grip was tight on my wrist, and every step he took  it got tighter. "John, t-that hurts."

He turned to me and immediately lets go of my wrist. "Oh God, I'm so sorry. I-I didn't mean to." He frantically apologized, his face reverting back to it's look of calm and concern, the look I'd rather see.

"It's fine, but, why did you do that?" I asked, going inside the room with him and closing the door.

"Check this out." He scoffed, showing me his phone.

My vision started to get blurry, my cheek getting stained by tears that freely flowed from my eyes...

"Alex, come one, don't cry, don't cry." John's voice rang, feeling his arms around me as I continued to silently sob. "I'm here Alex. I'm here and he won't hurt you. Don't cry." I know John, but you don't understand what it's like to be, well, us.

There's nothing you can do about this. It's done and it has happened. The only thing I need right now is for you to....

"John..."

"Yes?"

"Stay. Please don't leave me helpless." I choked out. "Lafayette's not here, I don't want to be alone. It hurts being alone and helpless."

"I'm not going anywhere Alex. I'll stay. That's a promise."

Damn this took too long to write. It was suppose to show the 5th battle  but I can't write a fight scene and it might not have anything to do with the plot. So, I steered back on track. See you on the next one my rollies!
