"What happened?" Annabelle's mother asked her once she got home from a long day of work. She looked disappointed in her, but that was no shock. Almost everything Annabelle did came as a disappointment.

"I just fell at school, I get the cast off in six weeks." Annabelle replies, not looking at her mother straight in the eyes.

"This better not effect your grades. Even though they aren't that great in the first place. Am I going to have to ground you again?" Her mother says while shaking her head.

Annabelle doesn't understand why she is an utter disappointment. Maybe it's because her brother got a full scholarship at this fancy college. He was a great athlete. Not to mention he was going to school to be some sort of rocket scientist. She didn't know, whenever he explained it to her, she stopped listening about halfway through.

"Mom, I have A's and B's, isn't that good?" Annabelle looks up at her mom, looking at her with hope.

"Not good enough." And with that, her mother goes to her room, slamming the door behind her.

This used to make Annabelle cry, but she has excepted she will never be the smart child that they want. Always will be a disappointment.

Annabelle just takes a deep breath and repeats 'Tomorrow will be a better day' over and over again. She's always said that, since her life isn't exactly perfect; with the trust issues, bullying, and her parents, it can be a bit stressful.

Then Christopher pops up in her mind, he almost, almost brought a smile to her face, which she hasn't done in quite sometime. No one has ever stuck up for her, ever. If someone is messing with her, everyone else just watches or enjoys the show and laughs. But he had helped her.

And he said that he was her friend.

Friend.

She's never had one of those. Actually she had one once. A best friend named Siren. They did everything together. They would have slumber parties all of the time, joke around, just be themselves around one another. Then it happened. She was twelve when she died in a horrible car accident. It was a drunk driver that hit them; who walked away with a broken arm while her best friend died.

The world is a sad place.

But with Christopher, she doesn't feel so sad. Annabelle wants to open up to him, but she just doesn't know if she could. What if he turns against her like everyone else. What if he gets disappointed after getting to know her. So many things pop into her head.

This is why she never opens up to anyone. Let alone trusts them.

Because once she lets them in, they will crush her heart and walk away.
