Dakotas POV

I ran, I ran as fast as I could. Through the thick tree branches in the dark night. Each step felt like a thousand but I continued to run. He was behind me, nearing in on me. A root caught my ankle and I couldn't get away in time.He brought the gun to my temple, "You know too much now." I took a breathe before he pulled the trigger. I trusted the wrong guy.

I screamed as a cold sweat covered my forehead, my heart beating a million times per second. Sitting up abruptly. Tears fell down my cheeks, and I felt as if I couldn't move. A warm hand held my shoulder. "What happened are you okay?" Kayden said softly, trying to find my eyes. "You were screaming and weren't responding to my voice." Worry present in his voice. My breath caught in my throat. He pulled me into his chest and rubbed my back. My tears stopped, "bad dream." I said terrified. "Shit." He muttered under his breath. "What?" I asked. "It was about him wasn't it. My dad." He said tightening his grip on me. "Yeah. But it was just a dream." I said. "Tell me what happened, please." He said pulling me from his chest.

Kaydens POV

Her lip quivered as she tried to explain the nightmare to me. "He chased me, through the woods." She continued to tell me, all I could do was hold her. She should've never been there that night, she doesn't deserve to go through this every night. Her hair cascaded down her shoulder. "I'm sorry." I said. I felt it was something she said a lot to me, even if she did nothing wrong. I'm just gonna ruin her, she can't fix me. I'm so broken that my pieces don't even fit together, I'm too broken for anyone. "Kayden?" She asked, her hand shaking. I noticed and grabbed it, hers cold and icy. I nodded encouraging her to continue. "Please don't go anywhere." She said shyly. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Don't change your actual personality. I like it better than the guy you act like at school." She said. "It's a defense Koda. It's not gonna change." She frowned, "I know." I moved closer to the wall and brought her with me, holding her to my chest. "I'm here, no one's gonna hurt you, Okay? Go to sleep." I said. She soon fell asleep in my arms. I can't hurt her, I can't lose someone like her.

Kodas POV

I woke up with Kayden holding me. His embrace was warm and comforting. "Morning, princess." Kayden said. "Morning." It was 8:30 and we were leaving the hill. "My mom blew up my phone." Kayden said, showing me the texts. "You didn't tell her where you were?" I asked, my eyebrows raised. "I figured she'd be fine." He said. "We're gonna find missing persons all over town!" I laughed, he joined in. We got home soon enough, and I got off the motorcycle Kayden treasured. "Good luck." I smiled. He sighed, "Thanks, I'll need it." I walked over to my walkway that led to the front door. Kayden groaned and looked at me, "Say I died better than I'm about too." I laughed, "Sure, bad boy." I said rolling my eyes. He returned with a grin and opened his door. "Kayden Jacob Collins..." I heard Anna shout. I went inside forgetting my parents were gone. "I'M Home!" I called. "Oh, right." Going to the kitchen I noticed the photos of my family when I was little. It's weird how they've just disappeared, it's like we're not even a family anymore. There always leaving, and I'm i'm left alone. Soon enough it was around lunch time, so I texted Kayden. 'Hey kayd.' I waited for a reply. 'Hey, i'm coming over.' He said, my window opened a minute later. "Well hi there." I said. "Hi!" He said like a little kid. We went downstairs and made grilled cheese sandwiches and put on some stupid film. "What the hell?" Kayden said to the tv. "That doesnt even work! That's not the plot of the movie!" He shouted. "Calm down," I said laughing trying to calm him. "It's just stupid." He said. I pulled the white plush blanket over my shoulders, "The book was better." I said. "No kidding, john never did that in the book." Kayden said, looking at me. "You read a book?" I questioned. He glared at me for a good moment, "Yes Koda. I read." He said. "Sorry." I mumbled beneath my breath. "What was that?" He smirked. "Nothing." I replied. He gently tackled me over and tickled me till I couldn't breathe. "Kayd..." I said as I gasped for air. "Yes?" He replied. "S-stop!" I said. He stopped and laughed to himself. "Well that was fun." He said. "For you maybe." I bitterly said, glaring. My phone began ringing on the white nightstand by my bed. I pushed myself out of bed and answered. "Hey honey." My moms voice clear on the phone. "Hi?" I said confused. "I'm sorry we had to leave so abruptly. You get a few days to yourself though." She ended positively. "Okay. see you when you get back I guess." I said ending the call. "Everything good?" Kayden asked. "Yea, it's all good." I said. "Wanna play a board game?" Kayden said smiling. "Sure." We went to the basement and grabbed snakes and ladders. I won a few rounds and so did he, we ended laughing. "Well that was fun." I said. "Agreed. Wanna order pizza?" Kayd said. We ordered pizza which arrived shortly after. We grabbed the box and went back to my room. "Don't get it on the sheets." I said looking at the boy, who was holding the takeaway box. "Okay." He grumbled, jumping into the bed. I put on netflix and we started watching friends. It must of been after 20 episodes before we ran out of pizza. I felt my eyelids get heavy and leaned into kayden, who was holding me from behind. I knew I'd fall asleep almost instantly.

Kaydens POV

I felt her lean on my chest, so I wrapped my arms around her, holding her. Her shallow breaths, her closed eyes, and her hair which had fallen down her back and rested there. My large hand held her around the waist and her nose scrunched in response. "Watch your hands lover boy." She said, her eyes still closed. I laughed breathily. "I will. Goodnight princess." "Night Kayden." I held her till my eyelids couldn't keep open. I turned off her laptop, and moved it off the bed. I resumed holding the small girl in my arms. I'm not sure why, but she accepted my past. Didnt judge me or accuse me of being a horrible person, she was different. I don't know how to explain it but she's so non judgemental unlike everyone else, she really keeps her word and trys to fix the mistakes she makes along the way. We need more of her in the world. I need her in my world, in a few months she's become my world.
