Wait. No. He wasn't looking at her. Vera realized. She turned around and saw a dark-haired girl following others outside of the room. He was looking at Teresa.
It was hard to believe that her closest friend was back. Did Teresa even remember her? Vera shook her head and sighed. That wasn't important right now.
Suddenly, she heard, "What are you going to do to her?" and turned around, seeing Thomas speaking -- or yelling -- at one of the guards.
Vera quickly walked to them, pushing Thomas back.
"I suggest you sit back down if you don't want to get injured." She told him.
The guard nodded and shoved Thomas, hard. "Better listen to what she says." He said.
"Teresa. What's going to happen to her?" Thomas repeated.
Vera opened her mouth to respond, but Janson's voice interrupted her.
"I hope a fight's not happening." He said before looking at the guard. "Take them home."
The guard nodded again, grabbed each subject by the arm and lead them outside.
"Good to see him, huh?" Janson said, chuckling a little.
Vera rolled her eyes. "No, never. What an annoying brat."
"You could say the same about yourself," Janson replied and then laughing when he saw Vera's blank expression. "Jokin'."
"Sure you are." Vera said. "So, where am I supposed to sleep tonight?"
Janson stepped forward. "Well let's find out."
Luckily, Vera got to sleep in a rather large room with a row of beds, but it was just her. It was kind of creepy in some way.
She decided to sleep but quickly found that she couldn't.
She just laid there, staring up at the cold white ceiling. Thoughts ran through her head, but it was just a big blur. Eventually, she fell asleep.
Vera awoke to a knock on her door. Groggily, she sat up and waited for another knock before opening the door.
It was Janson.
"The Chancellor wants to see us." He said and that was enough for Vera to get ready and leave.
The two of them walked silently to a door in the middle of a dark hallway and Janson slid his keycard through a slot, causing the door to slide open.
Curious and scared, Vera's head hurt as she was exposed to blue light and as her eyes adjusted to the new light, she saw rows of tubes lining the walls.
People. Vera realized. People were in those tubes.
And she was right. There were teenagers in those tubes and there were wires attached to them.
Vera recognized a few as the Immunes that Janson had collected today.
So this is where they went.
She hoped Teresa wasn't here.
"Hurry up," Janson said, starting the call with Chancellor Ava Paige.
A large screen suddenly filled the empty space and the two of them turned their attention to Ava.
"I assume everything's going well," Ava said. Janson nodded and Ava continued, this time looking at Vera.
"I hope you've gotten everything we need. As soon as you have, you can return to the Last City." She said. Vera bit her lower lip before replying, "I'm almost there."
"Good. Janson, what are you working on right now?" Ava asked.
"We're still running tests for the Immune. I've heard that more people are becoming infected and we can't have that happening now, can we?"
"Correct. However, I have heard a strange rumor about a group called the Right Arm who are supposedly protecting the subjects. It would be unfortunate if this was true, but it doesn't matter now. We have what we need and that's Group A."
"I won't let them out of our grasp."
Ava then turned her attention to Vera. "And I hope that you don't turn against us. Remember, we are going to find a cure for you and all the others who are scared. Remember that WCKD is good." She said before ending the call.
Janson looked at Vera. "I guess it's time to check up on Group A." He said. There was a thud and their attention immediately turned to one of the tubes. It was clearly that someone was hiding behind it.
Uhh I don't know what else to put except you can tell I tried SO hard to get all the dialogue right in the movie holy freaking crap.Anyways, thanks for reading!
