Vera took a shaky breath and tried not to look at the Cranks as she said, "There was a lightning storm outside. We needed to find shelter or we were going to die."

"Not sure this is the right place for you." The girl said. "C'mon."

The group followed her into a musty room.

There was a Hispanic man staring out the window.

"Three questions: Where are you going, where did you come from, and how can I profit?" He asked.

There was silence before Vera spoke.

"We're here for the Right Arm. Do you know anything?"

There was a chorus of laughter. The man looked over at the girl and Vera could see that they were hiding something.

"The Right Arm doesn't exist, girlie," The girl said.

The man cut to the second question immediately. "Where did you come from?"

"That's our business," Minho answered.

Silence.

"Let go of me!" She demanded.

The girl took a scanner from a table and as the guards held Thomas down, she hovered it over his neck.

Vera's eyes widened. She couldn't let the girl scan her.

She was glad that she placed the tracker on Thomas' lower torso.

There was a beep and Thomas yelled, "What is that?"

The girl and the man ignored him.

Instead, the girl faced the man. "You were right, Jorge." She said, tossing him the scanner.

Jorge smirked and faced the group.

"Looks like you're tagged." He told them, then in a lower voice, he said, "You came from WCKD. Which means...you're very valuable."

"
