Six - You're Caring For Her

"Tabby." I utter, running my hand over the kitten in front of me.
"What?" Violet crouches down to pet the small animal.
"Her name, it's Tabby."
"How do you know?" Roger furrows his brows, strong creases showing on his forehead.
"We're not too far away from my best friends house, Tabby was his cat."
"How can you be so sure it's her?" Both of my caregivers asked in unison.
"Look at her eyes, ones green and ones brown. The kink on her tail, caused by my best friends mom shutting the door without realising she was there. The tear in her ear from when she got in a fight with the dog. It's Tabby."
My eyes shine in excitement as I look down to the grey tabby kitten, who was only about a year old if I remembered correctly. Violet and Roger both look between one another, Roger giving a solemn smile before Violet turns to me.
"Do you want to keep her?" She smiles kindly, bending down to pet her.
"Can we?" I ask in a childish manner.
"Well if we do, you're caring for her." Roger states before Violet can say anything.
My smile grows as I lift her up, holding her in my arms. Examining the kitten closer, I see that one of her paws is held close to her prominent rib cage. I let out a small sigh before reaching into my duffel, keeping Tabby close to me with my other hand. I pull out a bandage from my own stash and gesture to Violet to hold the kitten while I tend to her wounded leg.
After a few minutes I take the kitten back, a bandage now wrapped around her wounded leg and a small purr erupting from her throat. She nuzzles into my chest as I hold her close to my body, purring louder. Her soft fur shuffles against my cold hands, warming my palms to a degree. Holding her there for a moment, I feel my heart swell slightly.
After holding Tabby to my chest for a couple minutes I open my duffel, making a small nest for her in my clothes and placing her in. If I was to be caring for her, I wanted her to be warm and safe, at least.
