-[-Angel POV-]-

I opened my eyes, sitting up quickly. I everything was spinning for a minute.
"Jesus..." I mumbled, nearly falling out of my cot. Max mumbled something about death and I tilted my head slightly. He suddenly shot up, eyes filled with tears. "Max?" He looked over at me and smiled. Something I rarely saw.
"Angel!" He jumped up and ran over to me, hugging me before I could process any of it. "You're okay." He didn't have a sheet and he was wearing his sweater. His sweater? Wait... did he get a new one somehow?
"Yeah... of course I am. I wouldn't just leave you here, dork." I mumbled. "Hey, wait, you're hugging me!" I exclaimed, a huge smile growing on my face. Max blushed and jumped back, making me giggle.
"D-Don't look too much into it, idiot." He rubbed the back of his neck. I threw the sheets off of myself and swung my legs over the bed.
"C'mon, we're going to see Nikki and Neil." I said. Max looked back at me and shrugged. He put his hands in his pockets. I didn't care that I looked like actual garbage. I was just happy that I could actually be up and walking around again. I walked out of the tent, Max following close behind. Nikki and Neil's tent wasn't that far away, so I didn't have to worry about running into Harrison. I opened the flap to the tent. "Nik?" I called out. Nikki was sitting on the ground. She glanced up at me and her eyes lit up. Max had barely walked into the tent before Nikki screamed my name and tackled me into a hug. "Nikki!" I laughed, hugging her. She was laughing. "Christ, I wasn't going to die..." I tried to sound upset that they were so concerned for my health. I couldn't help but smile. They cared so much about me...
"It was always a possibility." Neil said. Max's breathing hitched. I glanced up at him from my spot on the ground. "Max... help." I giggled when Nikki hugged me tighter. Max looked almost frozen for about 2 seconds before he realized that I had spoken.
      "No. Help yourself."
"Ugh, fuck you." I joked, trying to push Nikki off of me. When she finally got up, I brushed myself off and looked around. "So... want to go play baseball with the grenades from QM's room...?" I asked. Nikki and Max's eyes lit up and I smiled. "I have to go change. You guys go get everything ready. I'll be there in a second."

---

"Sorry, foul ball!" Nikki called into the now broken window of the counselor's cabin. She, Max and Neil ran back. I saw a man standing at the door. Just... staring at it. I listened to David and Gwen talking about hiring someone new. I rolled my eyes. The man staring at the door turned his head to me, his neck cracking.
"Uh, hey?" I stepped back a little. He squinted at me, turned back to the door and then knocked. I picked up the daily newspaper and started to read the front page. I only looked up when I heard how similar that man sounded to David. Hell, I thought it was David talking for a second.
"Good morning! Smell that fresh mountain air!" He exclaimed. "Gosh, now that's the kind of nature you don't just find in any ol' neck of the woods."
"Oh dear lord no." Gwen mumbled. I looked up to watch what was happening.
"Hello?" David popped out from behind Gwen, smiling. I raised an eyebrow. He kinda looks like David too, now that I think about it...
"Oh, well, hello there friend!" The man smiled back at David. I rolled my eyes and shoved the newspaper into my pocket. I was going to go back to playing grenade-ball with my friends.

---

"And that concludes my presentation on what is, and is not, a baseball," David finished happily. I sighed. "So, any questions?" Max raised his hand. "Yes, Max."
"Who the fuck is that?!" He pointed at the man I had seen earlier.
"Why, what an excellent question!" David responded, ignoring Max's use of a swear for the time being. "Campbell campers, I'd like you all to give a warm welcome to our newest co-counselor, Daniel!" I hummed. I glanced over at Max, Nikki and Neil. They looked extremely suspicious.
"Howdy kiddos!" Daniel's smile was... unsettling. Has he... not blinked this entire time? Wait... There was a long break of silence. Daniel was trying to discreetly scan over the crowd of campers in front of him.
"Howdy-do Daniel!" Space Kid finally spoke. I turned to him and shook my head. Innocent baby.
"You've got to be shitting me." Max said aloud, his voice laced with disbelief.
"Whoa, watch the language there little fella!" Daniel warned, never not smiling. My eye twitched. I see why David hired him...
"Watch the language indeed!" David smiled, obviously happy with his choice. "Just because Daniel here is new, doesn't mean you should treat him any different than you treat me."
Nikki picked up a ball of mud, staring David straight in the eyes. "Got it!" She threw the mud at Daniel's pure white outfit, never taking her eyes away from David.
"Nice one, Nik." I giggled quietly.
"He is you, David! Save for the outfit. Seriously, freakshow," Max gestured at Daniel's now dirty outfit, "what's with the cult leader getup?"
"Yeah... it does look kinda cult leader-ish. That's kinda creepy, dude." I commented.
"You must be Max and Angel. I've heard aaaaall about you two..." Daniel's neck cracked as he tilted his head slowly to the right while leaning forward. He was really close to our faces. I flinched back. He never blinks.
"Okay...?" Max looked genuinely scared and I flashed back to the time with the Woodscouts. I was scared too, but I put my arm out in front of Max and glared at Daniel. I hoped that he couldn't see the fear in my eyes.
"Fuck off, Daniel. Don't mess with him, or any of my... other friends for that matter." I gulped when he got a tiny bit closer and his pupils shrunk slightly.
"Daniel, I am so sorry about this terrible behavior." David glared at us. Daniel quickly pulled himself back into an upright position and he smiled at Daniel.
"Oh don't you worry, co-counselor. They're just, 'ragging on the new guy'..." Daniel cracked his neck again, but less obviously this time. "I thought this might happen, and so for my first day as camp counselor, I've prepared several exercises that are gonna help cleanse all of us of our negative emotions!"
"Cleanse us of our negative emotions? What the hell?" I asked softly.
"Well, that sounds wonderful!" He smiled and looked back out to all of us. "You kids are definitely in good hands. I'll go finish up your employment paperwork. In the meantime, try not to have too much fun without me!" David smiled to himself before turning back to Daniel. "Just kidding, have all the fun you want!"
