-[-Max POV-]-

I pulled David into the tent, pointing at Angel. I really hoped she wasn't going to die.
"Awe, Max... you care about her--"
"Shut up, David!" I yelled. I sighed when Angel shifted in her cot. David rolled his eyes and made his way over to her. I stood awkwardly by the tent-flap, not knowing what else to do. Don't be dead, don't be dead, don't be dead...
"Max? I called your name a few times... are you alright?"
"I'm fine, David! Just tell me what's wrong with her." I snapped.
"Well... she has a fever, and from what I can see, it's probably not going to end well if she eats too much solid food. She needs plenty of water, and probably some chicken noodle soup.
"I want you and Nikki to take care of her. She seems to have taken a liking to you." David paused. "Neil can come too, if he wants."
"Mhm." I hummed, kinda staring into space.
"Max, I'm gonna start making her soup. I'll tell Nikki and Neil to meet you in here. Good luck!" David walked out of the tent and I sighed.
"Good luck-!" I mocked, glancing up at Angel. She was shivering, even with my sweater and a sheet on. I grabbed the sheet off of my cot and put it over her. She still looked cold. Nikki suddenly ran into the tent on all-fours. She jumped up when she saw me.
"David told us she was sick! Where is she?" Nikki looked around. I rolled my eyes.
"Where else would she be, dumbass." I said, pointing at Angel. Nikki rushed over and put her arm on Angel's head.
"Oh my-- She's burning up! Do you have any Caprimoons in your stash, Max?" Nikki asked. I shrugged.
"Probably." I went to go look for one in my food stash, which was slowly starting to empty out. There was never good food here.
"Max, I don't want to get sick..." Neil mumbled. My eyes snapped up and I turned to look at him.
"Listen, Neil, we were told to take care of her because she's sick. I don't care if you're afraid of germs or whatever, just... help me take care of her!" There was silence for a long while before Nikki started giggling and Neil smirked.
"Jesus, Max... I thought you hated her." Neil said. I felt the heat rising to my cheeks.
"I... I do! I-It's just... Wait! N-No, I don't..." I decided to give up before I dug an even bigger hole. "Whatever." I went back to looking for a Caprimoon for Angel.

---

I made Nikki check to see if it was actually David and Gwen making the soup and, thankfully, it was. Gwen decided to deliver it to us so we could give it to her.
"Here you go, Satan." She handed me the bowl and left. I rolled my eyes and turned around. Nikki and Neil were taking a break, so I decided to stay with Angel. I walked over to her and shook her gently with one hand. She opened one eye.
      "Wake up, idiot."
      "Ma-ax...?" She coughed. I nodded.
"David and Gwen... made you some soup."
"Really?" Angel's eyes lit up. For some reason, it hurt to see her this sick. God dammit, Max... get it together. Stop caring so much about... about some girl that you just met!
"Yeah." I tried to keep my tone cold. Tough. Mean. Sarcastic. But it was hard. I guess she brings out the best in me.
"Tell them I said thank you!" She took a spoonful of chicken and vegetables and ate it. I turned away from her, glancing over at the stuffed bear laying under my bed. "Man, I forgot how good chicken noodle soup tasted when I was sick..." There was a happy light in her eyes.
"Mhm..." I looked back to Angel in time to see her drink some of the broth.
"I can't eat a lot of this, though..."
"It's fine. I'm sure they'd... make you more. Or something." I took the bowl from her and put it down on the log she used as a bedside table. "Try to get some sleep. I'll wake you up to get some water in a bit." She nodded and closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep once more. If there's one thing everyone knows about me, it's that I'm more mature than most campers. I have better impulse control, and I don't make stupid decisions. Well, all of those things went out the window when I leaned over and kissed Angel on the cheek. I didn't even process the fact that I had done it. I just... did. I blinked a few times and my face heated up. Nikki came into the tent.
"How's she doing?" She asked. I blinked a few more times. My brain had stopped working completely. "Max!"
"Oh, uh... fine. She ate some of her soup." I mumbled.
"Well, your parents sent you a gift. Also, David and Gwen... well, Gwen, went into the city to buy a huge pack of water bottles. So grab a few of those on your way back." Nikki said.
"Great." I started to leave the tent. "Watch her, I'll be right back." I grabbed the box from the Mess Hall and took it back to our tent. Opening it, I found an identical hoodie to the one I gave to Angel. "Well, they know what I like..." I sighed, slipping it on and throwing the box somewhere behind me. Nikki looked back at me after feeling Angel's head again.
"Hey, Max, she's heating up again..." She paused, biting her lip. "Could you go ask Gwen to come check on her? I'm kinda worried..." I've never seen Nikki like that. Scared. At least, she never showed it.
"Whatever..." I walked out of the tent and went to go find Gwen.

---

Gwen was in the tent, and she told me to stay outside. Why? I have no clue. Nikki was pacing back and forth, from outside to inside. Neil had gone into the tent to get some coffee, but he left three minutes ago. I realized that I was starting to pace too, so I walked into the tent.
      "Gwen, what the fuck--"
"Angel? Are you alright?" I heard a voice. Harrison's voice. I groaned.
      "Go away, Harrison!"
"I just..." Harrison walked into the tent. "I heard that Angel was sick and I thought that I'd come to check on her. Y'know... because we're friends."
"Oh, yeah. Sure." I rolled my eyes. I started pushing Harrison out of the tent. "So, you try to walk in on her changing, she tells you to fuck off and you still think you're friends?" I chuckled. "Oh, and don't forget about the stupid ass stunt you pulled at the dock! You tried to force her to come with you to who knows where, even after she told you that she didn't want to. Yeah, she told me about that. Because we're actually friends!" I froze. Huh.
"Are you sure~?" Harrison laughed. We were fully outside now.
"I..." I didn't know what to say. She probably hated me. I insulted her when she first came here... I said that I didn't want to share a tent with her.
"That's what I thought." Harrison had a satisfied smile on his face. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go see my friend." I snapped.
"Fuck off, Harrison!" I yelled, pushing him. He fell backwards, the smirk on his face fading. "Even... Even if she hates me, at least I don't like her just for her looks! Unlike you!" I was borderline screaming, and Nikki had now come to my side. Harrison scrambled away, and I suddenly realized what had just happened.
"Max, what the fuck?!" Gwen yelled from inside the tent, I could barely hear her. I hated everyone at camp, so I obviously had outbursts before this but... never like that.
"What was that?" Nikki grabbed my arm, turning me towards her.
"I don't... I don't know." I sighed, wringing my hands. "I don't know! Harrison just... pisses me off, especially now that he's being a creep to Angel!" I shook my head as I heard the beeping of the thermometer from the tent. "Come on, let's go." I walked into the tent, ignoring the knowing look Nikki had on her face.
"She's at 101 degrees. As long as she keeps drinking water and takes one pill from the tylenol bottle I left on the desk every few hours, she should be alright by tomorrow." Gwen started to leave, but paused to speak before she left. "I know you kids have been through a lot over the past few days... but stop yelling at other campers, Satan." WIth that, she was gone. I turned to look at Angel, who was half-awake and rubbing her eyes.
"Max? Nikki?" Her throat sounded better, at least. "Max... were you yelling at Harrison...?"
"Max, I'm going to go get Neil. He left an empty k-cup on the ground." Nikki left the tent. I poked Angel's shoulder.
"Don't worry about it, nerd." Angel smiled and rolled her eyes.
"Give me a water bottle, dork." She reached out for the unopened one on the log beside her bed. I grabbed it and opened it for her. She sat up slowly and took the bottle from my hand.
"Tylenol." I pointed out. She groaned.
"Open it for me?" She asked. I could tell she still wasn't fully awake. She still looked tired. I nodded at her request, picking up the pill bottle and, after a few tries, opened it. I grabbed a pill and handed it to her. She put it in her mouth and hesitated. "What if I choke?" She asked.
"You won't. I promise." I responded. She nodded and took a sip of water so she could swallow it. It took her a minute, but she did it.
"Thanks, Max." Angel sunk back down into her pillow and I grabbed the water bottle from her.
      "Mhm."
"You're the best... That's why I really like you..."
"Wh..." I looked up from her hands to her eyes. "What?" She had fallen asleep once more. I sighed and put the bottle down.
"I think I really like you, too..."
