We rode on until nightfall where we came across a good spot to stop for the night.
I swear the second our feet hit the ground when we got off our ponies Thorin started barking orders.
"Oin! Gloin! Get a fire started! Dwalin check the area and make sure it's safe! Fili, Kili, go hunt for food. We eat what
you bring back so make it good." Fili and Kili nodded and ran off. Then Thorin turned to face Bilbo and I. "Melody and
Bilbo...go make sure the ponies are alright." Thorin said as he went to speak to Gandalf. I rolled my eyes and nodded.
I went to go sit with Bilbo to see him sneaking his pony an apple. I laughed at him as lightly nudged him, "gimmi one." I
said smiling as I fed one to my pony as well.
We easily started a fire, and began to settle down. Kili and Fili came back with two deers....great.
The deer was cooked and was starting to be handed out. I resisted not gagging as Fili handed me some. "Um...I'm not v-
very hungry" I said as I tried to hand it back. Fili looked confused. "Why don't you want to eat?" Fili asked. "Yeah we
worked hard catching that!" Kili said. "Melody eat your food." Thorin said.
I mumbled something under my breath, "what was that? You ungrateful child." Thorin said angrily getting in my face.
Now I'm pissed. "I DON'T EAT MEAT! YOU RUDE OBNOXIOUS BRUTE!!" I screamed back.
Thorin looked pissed and stormed off not saying another word. I scoffed and sat back down. "Kili...Fili...I'm sorry, I
should have said something earlier, I can't eat meat." I said calmingly with an apologetic look. They nodded and
grinned. Kili ruffled my hair and took back the meat. "So what are you going to eat dear?" Balin asked. I reached for my
bag and pulled out an apple and took a bite. "No wonder your so thin." Dwalin said. I nodded.
The dwarves and I ate and chatted, telling stories and having a good time. Though...slowly at the back of my mind the
guilt of yelling in Thorin's face was catching up to me. I finished my apple and tossed the core to the side. I stood to go
find him.
I saw him sitting by the edge of the cliff looking out over the view. I gathered up my mind and walked over and sat down
next to him.
"Hey..." I said looking out at the view.
"Hi." He replied
"Look... I'm sorry I yelled at you...in front if everyone...I feel bad." I said looking over to him.
He looked at me and nodded, "it's alright...I was out of line as well."
I looked down at my feet and sighed. Thorin took notice.
"What is it?" Thorin asked sounding actually worried.
"I guess I should tell you why I was so eager to come on your quest...since your so against me being here." I said pulling
my knees to my chest.
"When I was little...I went with my parents to Erebor, I was so happy and excited to see Erebor...I had heard it was
beautiful. I used to dream about walking through it...I had and still have wanted to see it my whole life."
Thorin couldn't help but grin listening to Melody talk of her wishing to see Erebor. Melody continued.
"We had arrived there the day Smaug attacked...I was terrified. In all of the commotion and terror I lost my parents. I
was crying my eyes out and screaming their names. I was lost and could hardly see...the smoke in my lungs where
making it hard to breath and the ash was burning my eyes, I was desperately trying to get peoples attention to ask if they
had seen my parents...but since I was so small...I was trampled, I broke a rib. I stood and struggled in pain trying to find
them. When I finally found saw them, I went to run to them but before I could get to them..."
I stopped, I was crying.
((Thorin POV))
I listened to Melody, I had a sick feeling in my stomach realizing how much she really does know about this.
"When I finally found them, I went to run to them but before I could get to them..." She started bawling. I threw my arm around her and pulled her close.
"What happened Melody..." I asked, stroking her hair trying to calm her crying.
"I-I ran towards them and all of a sudden, I shot of fire from Smaug hit them..." She cried harder
"I WATCHED MY PARENTS BURN!!! THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO!!!" She cried and I could tell she was
hyperventilating and I was worried.
"Melody Melody shhhh" I said sitting up and pulled her into a hug, having her rest her head on my chest.
"Shh...it's okay...it's okay." I whispered. She was still crying as hard as ever. She stopped for a moment and tried to
breath. "After I saw them I screamed trying to run to them...until a man scooped me off of the ground and carried me
away from the danger...leaving my parents there...burning..." She said softly, I could tell she was on the brim of crying
again. "The next morning I had found that it was not a man who took me...but an elf. His name was Lord Elrond. He
was kind to me and helped me somehow cope. He asked me what would make me feel better...and I told him that I
wanted a grave for my parents...and that's what he did...." Though I despised elves...I was somehow grateful that they
saved her.
"Lord Elrond made the most beautiful grave...it's on a cliff right in front of the hidden waterfall where the moon shines
so perfectly. I...I couldn't thank him enough...b-but I miss t-them so much!" She started crying again and wrapped her
arms around my neck and cried.
She was shaking harshly and was breathing unevenly. I lifted her into my arms and carried over to where I would be
sleeping. I laid her down and she looked at me, tears pouring out of her stunning, emerald green eyes. "W-What are you
*hic* d-doing?" She asked with her voice shaky and short of breath. I pushed her red bangs out of her face, "I'll be back,
stay here."
I walked over to where she kept her bag and brought it over to where she was. "Your sleeping with me. I don't want you
being alone like this." I said sitting next to her leaning my back against the rock. She looked
at me, with big watery eyes. I watched her wipe the tears off of her face before she grabbed my arm lifting it up and
hugged her arms around my waist, resting her head on my chest.
"Melody sit up." I said, she did just that. I took off my fur coat and she laid back down on my. I wrapped the fur around
her and stroked her hair until she fell asleep.
I could her her snore softly and couldn't help but feel bad for being so mean to her....but smile at how cute she really was.
"Don't worry Melody...I won't let anyone hurt you." I whispered and protectively wrapped my arm around her while I
sat watch.
