I leaped away from Death, and spun around to face my dad. A look of shock went across my face.
His face was a tanner color, and wasn’t a blotchy pale color anymore. He was standing up tall. His brown hair was long, almost like a mullet, and brushed away from his eyes. His eyes were a cool blue, mixed with some green, and a little brown. He wore blue jeans and a gray shirt, with ‘Red Wings’ plastered on it, along with the wing, which was red. He had on muddy, and grass stained, white shoes. This was him normal self… My dad was well. My dad was okay. He really was okay. “Daddy?” I choked out and ran towards him.
My dad’s eyes widen and he scoops me into a huge hug. “Oh Nat… Thank God that you’re okay… Where have you been?”
I hug him back, tears pouring from my eyes. “I’ll explain everything dad… And better yet, you’re okay.”
He smiled softly. “The Angel helped me. Well, two did. Rein and Alex.”
My eyes widened. “Alex?” I pulled out and turned to face Death.
Death’s face seemed to turn red with embarrassment.
“I thought you said that only Rein helped?” I frowned slightly.
“I lied.” He shrugged and walked over to me and my dad.
“Why?” I already knew the answer. He was Death. Does Death help people? No. He sends them to Hell, or Heaven. That’s it. He doesn’t help people, and cure cancer. But, Death is different than what most people think. He was sweet, kind, caring, and really did have emotions. He hid behind a cold barrier, just to keep his reputation. I had a feeling he was kind to everyone, but something, or someone, changed that about him. He may have been hurt, or something tragic happened. Whatever it was, I think I’m getting the real Alexandru back; and it’s amazing. Well, he’s amazing.
He sighed slightly. “I…” He looked me in the eyes, showing me that I was right. He was going to lie again. “It was a surprise.” He shrugged it off, and threw an arm around my shoulder. What is he doing?! My mind clicked in place. Right, so it doesn’t seem suspicious, we were going to play it off, as I he was my boyfriend. Now, how is my Dad going to take this? I leaned into him slightly.
My Dad smiled slightly. “Let’s talk inside. It’s pretty cold out here. And why did you come here at midnight?! You might as well stay the night. I wouldn’t mind you and your angel boyfriend staying here. I have to… Talk with Alex anyways.”
I gulped. Talk. The talk. The protective dad and new boyfriend talk. That talk.
Death’s face dropped in realization. “Oh… Alright. Thank you sir.”
My eyes widened at that. Sir? Wow, he really is nervous. I hope my Dad accepts him. I know this is all a show, but I really do have feelings for Death. I love Death. I really do. I know it now. It would mean a lot to me, if my Dad accepted him. I bit my lip, and smiled at both of them.
My dad cracked a smile at Death. “Call me Craig.”
“Alright… Craig.” Death smiled nervously.
At least this was a good sign. My dad was very accepting to people, but not so much to guys who were ‘falling for me’. I knew Death wasn’t though… He was Death. He had to have another girlfriend or something. I’m sure tons of girls fan-girled over him, and he might as well be with one of them. Not me. I mean, who could love somebody like me?! I stutter, and I have silver eyes. I’m a freak. My shoulders slumped and I chewed on my lip. I was so over joyed about my dad, but Death… I loved him. And it would hurt if he didn’t love me back.
“Well, Alex, Nat, let’s go inside.” My dad walked up to the small house.
Our house was a small brick house. It was way better than it was before. The grass was perfectly mowed. My dad had a ‘thing’ with mowing before he got cancer. He was obsessed with mowing, and keeping the lawn nice. Tall pine trees stretched up from the grass, and were scatted across the yard. A large red barn was by the edge of the fields. It was re-painted and the doors were wide open. This was just like my dad. Working until he passed out. The small concrete path to the door was newly paved. Everything looked brand new. There was even a Ford Truck in the driveway. It was a deep red. That was my dad’s favorite color. There was the garage connected to the house. The doors weren’t battered anymore. It was a smooth steel. Flowers peeked out from under the grass, along with my dad’s garden. The garden was behind the house. My dad loved fresh tomatoes. When I was little, I would go out and suck all the tomato juice from them, then give the flesh and skin to my dad to eat. That was our ritual.
My dad opened the door, ushering for us to walk in.
Death took the door from him. “I’ve got it sir. Go on in.”
My dad smiled. “Thanks! And Craig.” He chuckled softly and walked in.
My dad was the funny type. He was the one to make random jokes at stressful times, and get everyone laughing until we cried. He was the cook too. My dad could make the best meals in the world. He could prepare anything, at any time if you just gave him the supplies. My favorite dish from my dad was Spaghetti. It was the best. He was also the artsy type. He was an amazing drawer, and loved to draw dragons. When I was little, he would draw for me all the time, while four year old me, stood behind him with a grin, waiting. I missed my dad. Now, Alexandru and Rein got him back for me.
I walked in, and smiled at Death. “Thank you.”
He nodded. “Of course Natalie.” Then he leaned down close to my face. He did something I only dreamed of. He placed his lips against my cheek, and kissed softly. He pulled away and smiled at me. My face heated up and I could almost feel a hole burning through my cheek from where his lips were. I bit my lip, and stared down at the ground.
Death chuckled, and walked in after me, closing the door.
I looked around the house.
The house was a peaceful pale color theme. Browns, whites, and red were the main colors. The kitchen was small, but much kept well. Coffee machines and cups cluttered the counters. I smiled at this. This was the only place that would be dirty in the house, I knew it. My dad showed us all around the calm house. He finally came to his pride and joy. It was his man cave. Death’s eyes had sparked up and he and my dad chatted away over sports and other things like that. We all ended up on the leather couch, in front of a fire and TV. Death had slung his arm over my shoulder. I believed that my dad had forgotten all about the ‘talk’. I was right. They talked, and laughed for hours. I was just a smiling fool. Death’s warm arm was still wrapped around my shoulder. I could feel my eyes getting heavy and I laid my head on his shoulder, closing my eyes sleepily. I sure was tired… I was so over joyed at the fact that they were getting along, and very well at that. I could feel a blanket being laid over me, and my dad talking softly. I could barely make out what they were saying anymore.
