One would think that with Batman as my mentor, I could get what I wanted, but lately, after becoming co-leader of the team with Aqualad, I can't seem to find any time to just hang out with Wally, let alone have alone time. Any spare time I had, I spent as Dick Grayson, trying to stay a public figure and doing school work. So it came as a big surprise to me that Bruce booked Wally and I amusement park tickets for the weekend.
"Really? I get to hang out with Wally, for the whole weekend?" I gawked in disbelief. "I must be hallucinating right now."
"Rachelle, your delusions have been weaker lately, you shouldn't have any problem spotting them, I trust that you know this is reality," He criticize my attempt at a joke.
"Sorry," I diverted my gaze. "So, when can we leave?"
"Tomorrow, after the morning shift at the mountain. You and Kid Flash will Zeta to the amusement park and check into your rooms. Then I expect you two to stake out covertly and search for the patient."
Figures that the fun plans would have to do with the runaway mental patient, but who cares about a little bit of work? Wally and I had an excuse to hang out, for a whole weekend.
"No problem," I held back a sigh of relief at the chance to have break from training for a weekend. "I'll go tell Wally."
"Before you go, Rachelle," Bruce added with a smile. "I've decided that you can tell Wally that you're Richard, as long as he promises not to say anything and you don't mention any lead on to your gender. I don't want you letting that secret out just yet."
Wow, I did not expect that. Bruce, after years of me pestering him, finally gave me the go ahead for telling Wally my name. Bruce had to have an anterior motive behind it. Did he want Wally to call me by my birth name? Or could he just want to reward me for my hard work as Robin?
"I can't show him my eyes, can I?" I downgraded the chance. Never in a million years would Bruce make a jump that big when it came to my identity.
"No, you can't."
"Okay, just checking."
We parted ways, him going to his office and me to my room to pack. I picked up my phone and dialed Wally while I pulled out my duffel and got started.
"Hello," He picked up.
"Dude, you're not going to believe it," I responded, hardly able to contain my excitement.
"What? Did you get Batman to smile?" He begged for an answer.
"Well," I paused, "I did get him to smile, but that's not it."
"Than what is it?"
"We're going on a covert mission," I answered.
"But we go on those as a team, what's special about this one?"
"It's just me and you, and it's at the amusement park we have both been wanting to go to."
"Really?" He asked ecstatically. "When and for how long?"
"Tomorrow after first patrol and for the weekend," Wally's energy started increasing my own and I practically bounced around my room as I made sure to pack my swimwear glamour.
"Sweet! I'll see you then, I got to go pack." He hung up. I still couldn't believe it. My mind hardly focused to anything I did physically at that moment. My brain was too busy thinking ahead to the upcoming vacation for me.
The next day, my brain thought about everything except the fact that me staying in a room with Wally overnight might be considered inappropriate. Of course, I didn't think of it myself until I overheard a conversation similar to that situation while of patrol. Lately, I had gotten so into the role of being a guy, that I would sometimes forget that I was a girl and would find myself confused whenever felt my wig shift or I looked into the mirror.
