Jackson's POV
He's standing there, brown curly hair, bright blue eyes. His smile is bright, his white teeth twinkling in the sunshine. I can see him, feel his hands in mine. He turns and walks away, leaving me to watch him go. I try to call after him, but he can't hear me... and I don't know what to do.
*********
My phone goes off next to me, waking me up. I lean over and tap it repeatedly until it finally shuts off. I rub my eyes with my palms, trying to wake up. I've been having this dream for the longest time, and I can't figure out what it means.
"Jackson you're going to be late on your last day of school!" my mom shouts from the kitchen. I groan and roll out of my warm bed. I go to my dresser and throw on a pair of jeans and a grey shirt. I look in the mirror, finger combing my hair before grabbing my backpack and phone and heading out of my room. I set them down in the living room, before going to the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I come out, I grab an apple, before grabbing my backpack again. I swing it on and give my mom a quick kiss on the cheek.
" Have a good last day!" she yells as I open the door. I look back at her and smile,
" I will." I close the door and walk to the main street. I grabbed my headphones from my backpack and put them in my phone, playing my music. I was deep in thought when I all of a sudden feel someone jump on my back. I stumble a little bit, laughing.
" Well good morning to you too," I say. Hannah let's go of me and walks next to me.
" I'm so happy it's the last day of school and then we are officially seniors!" she says. Her brown hair is everywhere and she's jumping up and down.
" Me too, I'm ready for summer," I say. She takes one of my headphones out and puts it in her ear. She takes my hand in hers and walks in sync with me. We walk in silence, listening to the music when we get to school. We walk in, still hand in hand, connected by headphones. We have the same first class, so we don't need to part. I sit down and she is forced to take it out of her ear.
" So, you gonna get a summer romance going this year?" she asks, taking out her French textbook. I chuckle, taking my headphones out, stopping my music.
" You ask me that every year," I say. I put my phone away in my bag, getting out my binder and textbook.
" Yeah because you need one."
" Are you that sick of me?"
" Yes, oh my god you get so annoying. You're like a lost puppy," she says exaggerative.
" Ouch, I'm hurt," I say, putting my hand over my heart. The teacher walks in just as I say that.
" I'm just saying, it's time," Hannah says.
" Bonjour mes étudiants."
" Bonjour Madame Prudhomme," the class says.
" Tourner à la page 134..." I turn and look at the lesson for today. Verbs. This is going to be a long day.
By the time lunch rolls around my brain is fried from all the nonsense that I've taken in. I meet Hannah in the cafeteria in our usual spot near the windows.
" I hope no incoming freshman take our spot next year," she says, taking a bite out of her sandwich.
" I don't think they will if they see big scary seniors coming over," I say laughing.
" I remember when we were the freshman and I was so scared of the seniors, and now we are gonna be seniors! It's crazy," she says. I nod,
" Yeah me too. Sometimes I just wanted to--" I stop. I see the principal walking in with a woman and a boy. He has brown curly hair and is tall. He is scanning the room when he makes eye contact with me. I quickly look away, my face feeling warm. I look back up, and he's looking at the principle and then he looks at me again.
" What are you looking at?" Hannah asks.
" What?" I ask, turning to look at her.
" You're turning red," she says slowly.
" I am?" She smiles and then turns around and then turns back around.
" Ohh, now I know," she says winking at me. I cover my face with my hands.
" Stop!" I hear the chair scrape back and I look to see her walking over. Oh no. She shakes their hand and then motions over to me, making me look down at my food. A minute later, I hear his voice.
" Hey." I look up into his bright blue eyes. Boy am I in trouble.
