"We're really home, Mikasa!" Eren exclaimed yet again.

Mikasa smiled warmly at Eren and intertwined their fingers together. "Yeah, we are."

It was the same old Germany to Eren, but for some reason, it felt different. Now that Eren's mother had passed, it felt empty. Like the town lost some of it's light.

Nevertheless, Eren kept a smile on his face because he knew his mother would want him to be happy at the moment.

Mikasa and Eren took a cab to their old home and stood in front of the pure wood door and stood on top of the wool welcome mat that Carla had made herself. It made Eren smile.

She always had a thing for knitting.

Mikasa knocked on the door three times and Grisha cracked the door slightly. When he saw Mikasa and Eren, the first thing he did was engulf them into a big bear hug.

"Welcome home, you two." Grisha greeted the two, ruffling their heads lightly. Eren smiled at the action. Although, he used to hate when Grisha ruffled his hair. But, that was when he was much younger. He appreciated things like those now.

Mikasa and Eren walked into the house and immediately smelled their Mom's signature scent. It was vanilla mixed with a spice that Eren could never figure out what the name was.

"Would you two like some tea?" Grisha asked politely. He already had water boiling on the stove so it would be stupid to say no.

"Yes, please. Could I also get lemon in it?" Eren requested politely. Mikasa asked for the same as Eren and looked over to him to see if he was stable.

"Anyway you want it." Grisha then poured the finished boiling water into three tea cups and put tea bags into them. After about five minutes, the tea was settled in the water and Grisha made sure to add extra lemon in two tea cups.

"So, how did mom die?" Eren brought up all of a sudden. Mikasa looked shocked and hit Eren's shoulder.

"Eren, don't just bluntly ask li-." Grisha then interrupted her with a reassuring smile and looked down to the ground in sadness.

"No, no. It's fine, Mikasa. You're mother's death was a strange one. She said she felt like an eternal sleep was coming about three days before she died. I couldn't believe her and just laughed along to what she was saying."

Grisha stopped to take a sip of his tea and continued the story.

"Then, she died. I felt awful. They said she died by natural causes. But she was so young. I couldn't believe it. I was a doctor and I couldn't believe her results. But, it is what it is."

It was a lot to take in, but Eren completely understood. He nodded his head and looked over to Mikasa. Her head was hung low with sadness. Mikasa's parents were killed when she was just six years old.

So the Jaeger family took her in. They found out Mikasa was related to Levi later on when they were in middle school. But they left back to Germany after Mikasa and Eren finished seventh grade.

Everyone saw that they had the last name and Levi didn't know Mikasa until Eren introduced her to him at his party. Mikasa didn't like him at first sight. But, if he made Eren happy, Mikasa would learn to get close to him.
