Chapter Seventeen: Realization

"That was a lovely lunch, Reiner." Eren complimented the taller male. He was sitting on the far side from Reiner in the car they were in.

They were heading back 'home'.

"I figured you might've liked it." Reiner said with a smug expression. How badly Eren wanted to wipe that smug face off of him was unspeakably true.

Nevertheless, he put on a cheery smile. "I did. Thank you."

After about five minutes of obvious tension in the air, Eren decided to ask Reiner a risky question.

"Um... Reiner?" Eren called for his attention. Reiner turned to him and nodded, a sign for him to go on with his question.

"Do you mind if I spend a little time with Maria? She asked for me. She wanted to teach me special recipes and stuff. To... please you in the future." Eren informed Reiner while fiddling his fingers.

Reiner looked hesitant but then nodded. "Fine. But you guys only have an hour together. After that," Reiner put his large hand on Eren's thigh, "I want you in our room."

Eren inwardly cringed. The way he put emphasis on 'our' was disgusting. But he still smiled. A smile that was beginning to falter once Reiner caressed his thigh.

Eren uncomfortably scooted away a bit and cleared his throat. "Ahem. Okay. I'll be there."

Reiner narrowed his eyes at Eren moving away from him, but decided to leave it alone.

"Oh. We're here." Eren said in a cheery tone.

Reiner nodded slowly. Eyes still narrowed. "Yeah. We are."

"See? I told you." Hange teased Levi. She made a bet that Levi would like the expressos and he declined to that bet quickly.

Turns out, it was his new favorite drink at the time.

"Shut the fuck up, four-eyes." Levi said. He rubbed his temples and sighed. Hange looked at him with a solemn look.

She then softly smiled at him and patted his back lightly. She then thought of a solution that would at least cheer Levi up. She used to do it in highschool, so she was sure it was going to work.

"Hey, Levi?" Hange asked for his attention.

He looked up at her, waiting for her question.

"Wanna have a damn sleepover already?!" She asked in excitement.

Levi looked at her with an agitated face and quickly declined.

"Are you out of your mind?" Levi asked rhetorically. Did he look like he was thirteen?

"Levi!" Hange said in a whiny voice.

"No. I'm an adult. In case you haven't noticed." Levi said sarcastically.

Hange pouted. "Oh, come on! It'll be fun. I can even get Erwin to come along. And Moblit'll definitely come too!"

Levi grunted. "Are you sure? Those are the only people who could keep me sane in your house."

Hange then put her hand over her heart. "Cross my heart and hope to die."

"Okay, then." If that was something that could distract him from his loneliness, he would surely agree.

"Hey, Maria." Eren said with a smile as he entered the large kitchen. She was usually in the kitchen because Reiner said not to slack off. It was huge too, so it took a while to clean.
