Chapter 4: the Beginning

"Ahhhh!! You ! You stay AWAY!!!" Screamed Alex whacking the glass turtle on the floor, the glass turtle broke in half. 

Alex was relieved to see the two broken pieces and then suddenly the pieces started shaking and then came closer and closer and rejoined together! The turtle was back in 1 piece and was standing on the floor looking up and Alex again.

Alex was at the hyperventilating stage now! She didn't know what to do, she tried pinching herself then smacking herself.

" okay, definitely NOT a dream! Should I touch... No .. Yes ! Alex muttered to herself. She slowly began to move forward to touch it ... Nothing ! Nothing happened, the she grabbed it and started crying, she didn't want this day to move forward, she couldn't stand it if she had to be all alone in school. She didn't want to get... Bullied. Alex fell asleep...

She woke up to see that she was no more in her bedroom... She was in a stable! Alex stumbled back and hit her head on something hard.. She turned around to see a man wear riding gear.

" There you are.. Your the new nanny right? And what are you wearing... Some sort trousers ... Mmm?? You must change immediately! Chop chop, get changed". Yelled the man, who was now closer ; he was wearing a jodhpurs and breeches.

" errr.... Wh- um.. Wher-" stammered Alex .

" words.. You know it is not good to stammer! Not very ... Feminine." Said the man.

" err.. I mean who are you??" Asked Alex curiously.

" oh right.. Sorry I'm the Duke Of Devonshire, and You are.. " the Duke pointed his hand out to Alex.

" My name is.. Is Alex... Alex Stamper... " mumbled Alex as she stood up and dusted herself.

"Ok well follow me Alexandra.. Your room awaits." Said the duke, while Alex followed him, trying to figure out what was going on?! She thought she was dreaming at first them pinched her self - again- then tried to hit herself to wake herself up.. By the end of that she was pretty sure that she was not sleeping, but then how could this be real... Just then she got interrupted by the duke.

" here we are.. Your room.. If you need ANYTHING just give the maids a shout.. You need to be bright and early for tomorrow's 1st lesson... G'day.." Said the duke, bowing then walking away. As soon as the Duke was out of site she slammed the door shut.

"No no no no..... I have school tomorrow... How will I get back! Oh great (!) Just great, I bet the sly snob Jessica had something to do with- oh who am I kidding?! Even Jess can't do something like this.. But she could try... Huh?!" Whispered Alex, then it came to her the turtle . KNOCK KNOCK!

" Good Afternoon Madame, I believe this is yours.. " said a boy who walked in wearing a SUIT!! He was also handing Alex the glass turtle.

" oh this right.. Thanks.. I mean thank you." Said Alex swiftly taking the turtle and smiling innocently.

"Your very welcome... Are you the one who shall be teaching my brother and sister... Well I believe you are if you are in this room.. Am I not right?!" Asked the boy.

" yes.. I think .. Anyways ...what's your name?" Asked Alex.

" my name is Edward Mason, soon to be Edward the duke of Devonshire... And I believe you are Alexandra... As my father has told me.... Gosh you are pretty young for a nanny or is it just me?!" Said Edward shocked.

" haha.. I get that a lot!" Sad Alex shly... She had no idea of what to say!

" ok I shall all leave you be, then... Good day.." Said Edward awkwardly walking slowly away... She was extremely strange for Edward. He had never seen a person- or women - wearing such clothes and speaking in such a weird way!

Alex sat down and took a deep breathe, and sat down hoping for her to wake up and see that she is home.

"How dare you come back! You were vanquished from here long away slithervious!" Yelled the duke.

"Ah brother.. Good morrow... I am here for our Edwards ceremony, I am his uncle! Where is he ?!" Said slithervious. Just then Alex was staring out the window...

"You, how dare you listen to us, go away and do your own things maid!" Yelled slithervious to Alex, who was fuming at what slithervious was saying to her.

"She isn't the maid, uncle, she has more respect than you will ever have. Why are you here? For my ceremony, when did you start caring about me, before or after you tried to kill me!" Said Edward in a polite yet strict way.

"Oh so you told him, well, however the law states that I have to be here as his mother isn't, and I am her brother, I mean I was her brother."said slithervious in a low quiet voice...

"Ah yes, but the law doesn't say anything about you staying IN the house, you shall stay in the spare servants quarters, Beth will take you there...BETH... Take him.... To the spare servants quarters." Said the duke, smirking.

"Follow me, there are some rules before you can go... 1. You can't go outside at night, because the wild animals come out, 2. You can't use the toilet before 1:00pm, the toilet will clog otherwise and last rule 3. Is that if your bed starts inching you it's probably the mice and insects, so don't complain. C'mon!" Whispered Beth as she didn't talk loudly.
