Wind whipped through her hair, tendrils of loose strands stinging her face slightly. She could feel the rush of blood move through her like a wave, her cheeks stained pink by the wind. Free.
Free is exactly how she felt, her shoulders no longer right, her stomach no longer knitted, she felt good. All due to a silly black cat.
Initially when Adrien asked her to the dance she thought about canceling patrol tonight, since it was right before he was going to pick her up, but she couldn't miss an opportunity to see her feline again.
She swung her yo-yo landing atop the Eiffel Tower. Over the years they had decided it was as good of a place as any to meet up as it created a central location for any Akuma attack.
Even through her suit she could feel the cold metal seeping through, the night colder than most this time of year. She walked forward noticing a silhouette of her favorite kitty swinging his legs in the open air, head against a steel pillar.
Ladybug sighed dreamily letting her eyes linger on him for a minute before letting her alter ego persona take over, he couldn't know she was Marinette, no matter how much she wanted him too.
She walked up as silently as she could and plopped down next to him, "Hey there Kitty!"
Chat jumped with a yelp, his tail flying outwards. He clutched his heart turning to her horrified. Ladybug on the other hand was clutching her sides from laughing so hard. Chat's expression turned soft, smile lingering.
"Well met M'lady. I'm going to remember that next time you are here first"
Ladybug wiped the tears from her eyes, "Oh Chaton, you wish you could sneak up on me"
Chat cocked and eyebrow playfully, "Is that a Catallenge my lady?"
Ladybug rolled her eyes at the bad pun but giggled, "If you think you can handle it" she flicked his bell for emphasis.
Ladybug watched as Chat blushed under the mask looking away quickly. I can't flirt with him as both of me! She thought frantically trying to compose herself. She was falling hard for Chat, but she knew he loved Ladybug once upon a time, it would be her luck that she brought those feelings back by leading him on.
But... it would be fun to mess with him.
"So Chat what has gotten you all love stricken staring off into the sunset?"
Chat sighed looking over to her, "I'm in a good place, sitting next to a beautiful woman" he winked at her, "What is there to be sad about?"
Ladybug smiled at his comment but grew a bit uneasy, Does he know who I am? Or is he just a flirt?
She wanted to avoid the next question that came barreling out of her mouth without her permission, but apparently she couldn't keep personal and business separate.
"I heard from a little bird that you have been visiting that Marinette girl. What's going on with that?"
Chat looked at her in surprise scratching the back of his neck, "Oh... I -we-ell um. Nothing?"
Ladybug looked at him in disbelief, her stomach practically jumped off the edge of the Eiffel Tower to to concrete below.
"Nothing?" Her voice sharper than she intended.
Chat looked flustered, "I- well I don't know what is happening..?"
"Is that a question? Or a statement?" Each word harsher than the last.
Chat stared at her like a deer in headlights, the wheels turning behind his eyes. Ladybug knew this was unfair, that she shouldn't have brought up the question in the first place but she couldn't help it. She was jealous of her own self. She wanted Chat to fall for her, not Ladybug. Wanted him to love her truest self.
"Is something wrong M'lady?" Chats voice quivering.
Ladybug sighed, it was unfair to put him on the spot, "No Chaton I'm sorry. Just tired"
But her she was more alert than she ever had been. There was a weird feeling in her chest, it was tight, almost locked and loaded ready to explode out of her. She couldn't pin down what is was, but it didn't feel good.
They sat in silence for a couple minutes until, "M'lady, have you heard of the Halloween dance that is at the local school?"
"Yeah why?"
"Well I heard that the admission is open to the entire city, and I have heard from a couple sources that it will be the bash of the year! And since it's a costume party we would fit right in!" Chat became excited, his smile extending passed his eyes.
Ladybug was hoping he wasn't about to ask her what she thought he was. Was hoping that he would be loyal enough to Marinette to not ask another girl (at least as far as he knew) to the dance.
Yes, she was going with someone else, but she had told him that he was winning. Had told him that she was wanting to be with him, or at least thought she conveyed it.
"Would you maybe want to go with me? Like a date?"
Ladybug couldn't look away from his beautiful green eyes. The loaded feeling exploded out of her chest like a volcano years overdue. It hurt, practically burned her. Her heart seemed to slow down, each beat like a stab across her nerves.
Heartbreak. This was heartbreak.
Tears sprang to her eyes without her permission, brimming faster than she thought possible. She looked across the city hoping that he didn't catch them fall down her cheeks.
Her brain seems to turn to mush. All that was coming across what nonsense. Lights. They are beautiful. Pain, so much pain. Her favorite Holiday quickly becoming her most hated. Cold, like my heart. Wind, icy. Pain.
She shook her head to make sense of it all. She stood up without warning, a worried expression across Chat's face.
"Patrols canceled Kitty" her nickname for him catching in her throat.
Before he could say another thing she swung her yo-yo and sped off out of sight.
Why did she think that Marinette had a chance against Ladybug.
Why?
